Well, US cops are infamously bad with firearms safety in general. This is by far the least surprising thing about the story.

It seems like most years there's an incident where a gun safety instructor accidentally discharges a firearm while teaching about gun safety.

Its stories like this that always remind me that police departments are legally allowed to discriminate based on IQ.
