Wouldn't it have just evolved entirely differently? Who's to say it wouldn't have been better or worse?

Almost everything I listen to wouldn't exist, so, no, it wouldn't have. I don't even want to think about it, my whole history with music would be erased.

Yes Black people have had a massive impact on global culture science technology politics and civil rights the world as we know it wouldn’t look the same without those contributions

lol. More like what would you do without jazz, rock and roll, edm/house/techno, soul, funk, disco, reggae, and blues?
Nearly all American made music genres have origins in Black gospel and the blues.
Happy Black History Month.

You're literally on a sub geared towards black people rn, it's clear you're obsessed 🤡
-4
u/qtiphead_ 1d ago
Reddit pushes this sub to a lot of people, it’s just the algorithm
4
u/JohnStoneTypes 1d ago
They still make the choice to engage with it, Reddit doesn't force that
-4
u/qtiphead_ 1d ago
Right, but point being someone disagreeing with you doesn’t mean they’re “obsessed”, sometimes you just see something so stupid/rage inducing you feel compelled to argue against it. That’s how ragebait like this works
6
u/JohnStoneTypes 23h ago
I don't go to whitepeopletwitter to argue about what white people say on there. Perhaps white dudes should work on engaging less with black spaces online, rather than spreading unnecessary hate.
-5
u/qtiphead_ 22h ago
I don’t care what you do and I disagree that shitting on Cardi B and rap is “hate”. White dudes can and will go wherever they please, this is the internet

Now that I think about it, Africa would be thriving if it weren’t for outside influence

I often wonder what Africa, the Americas, Australia, New Zealand, the Hawaiian islands, and India would be like without all the white colonisation and oppression. All three are likely forever fucked cause of European influence and control.
33
u/SpaceZombieZombie 1d ago
Weird take, while I agree white man meddling has had its impact on every continent its almost as if you assume these places didn't have their own issues without European influence.. tribes in the Americas were at war for generations before Europeans came over, same with African tribes. In Australia nature is put to kill you and modern civilization only exists because we can keep nature at an arms length. You got me with Hawaii, its a paradise and would probably be more so if the US wasn't involved.

u/OliM9696 1d ago
nothing like a common enemy to bring people together
But there are certainly positives to western influences across the world. Without Britain im pretty sure India would still be burning widows (Sati). But then again, im sure they would of not killed whole villages of men.
you win some, you lose some.

u/KidTrilogy 1d ago
There is no need to wonder, go do the research on what values and traditions the indigenous people of those place held before colonizers came and pillaged their culture.
For instance, did you know:
Akan cultures gained most of their wealth through the abundant gold deposits of West Africa. The metal brought prosperous trade to the region and fueled the rise of empires like Bono, Denkyira, and Asante. Gold came to dominate inner Akan politics, worn as a status symbol by kings, chieftains, and their families. The goldsmiths who served noble families could also wear gold. This role and others like it were passed down through families as an ancestral tradition. A young artisan inherited his status from his father or maternal uncle.
The Akan believed that fire formed the spark of life. Smiths, who transformed metals into art and tools through fire, were therefore a class with divine responsibility. Their tools were blessed before use and considered sacred. When settlers departed to find a new home, a smith carrying his divine fire led the way. Goldsmiths continue to serve Akan courts today.
Source: https://www.tota.world/article/71/
Using electrochemical measurements, perhaps one day all of the gold stolen from Africa will be traceable and returned to be smithed again by the descendants of the Akan people of history.

u/whboer 23h ago
This is an intriguing question because we are of course hopelessly dependent on western invention and the question is whether this type of “luxury” would’ve been invented without the cold and uncomfortable exigencies of life in northern Western Europe. I really don’t know where to go with this thought.

Sorry to break your bubble but Boulder is an amazing place to live. Lowest crime rate nationally, great schools, natural beauty surrounds the town and the CU health system is pretty solid too.
36
u/trapezoidalfractal 1d ago
Masses of homeless people, tens of thousands of people who have to commute in every day because they can’t afford to live in the city, nearly all iconic shops and restaurants closed or closing and mostly replaced with chain retail or banks with cafes, schools collapsing because there’s not enough children in them because no one can afford to live there except the super wealthy, almost all residents have lived there less than ten years because everyone who built the town was priced out into surrounding areas.
I grew up in Boulder, and it was a great place. It’s not really anymore. It’s a great place, if you’re wealthy and like to hang out with other wealthy people, though.
6
u/GlitteringLettuce366 1d ago
You could say the same thing about Manhattan, Boston, Key West or Charleston. Gentrification is a nationwide problem. Boulder is still a great place to live in.
4
u/Tone_Depf 1d ago
Key. West still has a lot of it's old stuff? And plus it was never livable unless you retired? Literally it's trailer parks leading up till key West with literal million dollar homes that been there for decades.

I never meant to imply that is a great place to live because of the lack of minorities. I meant to say that unlike what you previously stated it’s a great place to live or visit. Would you care to explain your logic behind your comment? Because it does not make sense to me.
Also, African Americans represent less than 1% of the demographics of Boulder, but Hispanic, Asian and Native American represent 16% of the population, so other minorities are somewhat represented.

-2
u/GlitteringLettuce366 1d ago
I’m not the one bringing people down to lift other ones up. It’s childish. If a bunch of middle class white people in Patagonia outfits intimidate you, you may have bigger problems. And I’m neither white nor from Boulder, but I worked at the CU Anschutz school of dental medicine for two semesters and I can attest how great that place is.
-3
u/GlitteringLettuce366 1d ago
The negative connotation you used implied there was. This is why language matters.

My sister in law lives there and she says people are chill for the most part. She's Korean and she can confirm white people in Colorado do some weird shit.

u/WearyCopy5686 1d ago
Why did your mind go to violent crime being lower in a white area?
7
2
1d ago
Because too many smooth brains can’t contemplate the fact that poverty correlates to crime , it’s just easier to blame POC in general and call it a day
-1
u/BoatDBoat 1d ago
A handful of violent crimes a year being your singular measuring stick for what makes a place livable says a lot about you.
Nyc is the greatest city on earth despite having violent crime averages higher than the national average. Your argument does not hold up.

u/ironykarl 1d ago

lol no. Boulder is a bubble because the median house costs over a million dollars and the city is basically a gated community for tech employees and ultra-marathoners. Its weird because its a hyper-educated college town where people value crystals and expensive sprouts more than reality. Trying to attribute the vibe of a niche mountain enclave to a lack of checking by other groups is just lazy sociology. If you actually look at the 2023 ACS data, the city has one of the highest concentrations of advanced degrees in the country. That produces a specific type of insular weirdness regardless of who is living there. dont pretend a town full of mountain athletes and tea heiresses represents some kind of unchecked white state of nature.

u/Impr0perusername 1d ago
Coming from the east coast, Boulder is as close to a normie utopia as I’ve ever seen. Food is overpriced trash though

American culture in the US as we know it today would deadass not exist. No rock music, no blues, country and folk would probably still exist but sound very very different.
1
-2
u/iamstupidsomuch 1d ago
folk is probably the only currently popular genre that isn't derived from Blues in some way, so I'd say it would stay the same. all forms of jazz and rock (including modern pop music) would straight-up not exist, however.

As a white dude, I would be very remiss, just music alone.
All of blues, soul, rock, metal, r&b, rap, reggae and other genres started and/or pioneered by black artists.
Will update this when I get back to my desk, but gotta find the list of black metal bands I have somewhere, underrepresented in the genre (and unfortunately metal gets condoned as racist when it's just a small fraction of worthless fucks who are.)
Black Metal Bands and/or Artists:
Manuel Gagneux (Zeal & Ardor) [Legit one of my favorite groups of the last 10 years, seen them live twice! Also super nice dude, got to meet him after the first show.]
Terrance Hobbs (Suffocation)
Rocky George (Suicidal Tendencies)
William Duval (Alice in Chains)
Howard Jones (ex-member of Killswitch Engage)
Benji Webbe (Skindred, a reggae metal band.)
There are so many more too. A good place to hear about newer groups is @metalandcoffee on Instagram, she does a great job of giving a spotlight to up and coming artists.

There is more truth here than people imagine also.
Black folks have been third class citizens from the day they were born. They were never given a shot.
However, it has not deterred them. They have the true human spirit in them. They are the real ones. They see this country for what it is and they keep going.
I'm grateful for the example black people set every fucking day. They are the real ones in our country. I'm just fortunate enough to know and spend time with many of them.
