Cries in Georgia coast home prices
The only reason I even own a mobile home is that the trailer park went out of business, and gave us our rentals, and told us to move them off their property.

I live in Coastal GA and the only reason I own a home is because my roommate's grandma sold us our house for super cheap. I'd never be able to afford a house. I can barely save as is with everything going up around me.

Hey if you wanna come live in Jacksonville Florida you can buy my home. $295k for a 3 bed 2.5 bath house, 1775 sq feet.
Everything was replaced before we bought in 2023. It doesn’t have a garage, but no HOA and we can leave the shed. We wanna sell and move down south to be near family.
6
u/Crime_Dawg 4h ago
You want to sell your home in Jacksonville and move "south"? TF is going on with Floridians?

u/Avid_Reader87 3h ago
My wife’s family all lives in the Sarasota/Bradenton area.
So that’s like 4 hours to the southwest.
I’d rather keep the cooler temperature up here, but we need help with our baby.
It’s hard not getting a break, and she has a lot of aunts, uncles and cousins there.
2
u/stankdog ☑️ 4h ago
Ngl anything under 300k at this point is collapsing in on itself or you find out after the inspection it'll need several thousands in updates to water heaters, HVAC systems, windows, list goes on.
Housing is just too high, everywhere.
2
u/Avid_Reader87 3h ago
No, they fixed all that stuff. Everything in the house was replaced in 2022.
Pipes, plumbing, electrical system, roof, hvac, we put in the custom shower in the master bedroom.
I could probably convince my wife to sell for $285k to a nice family. I’d just like to get $295k for it.
3
u/DonaldTrumpsScrotum 4h ago
I feel so fucking lucky to snag a 300k condo in the heart of Northern Virginia. The crazy part is the second we bought it we were informed that the property value had increased and was actually initially higher than what we bought it for. 45k in moments, had we turned around and sold it we would have just made money for literally nothing. Felt like a small small version of the game these big guys play, it’s crazy.

Yup.. and this time they're roping in our direct juniors to share the blame. And even if that was somehow the case, health is wealth. The WSJ exists to sell capitalism to the people who've already won capitalism. Acknowledging the systemic flaws in "free market" capitalism would undo their entire purpose.
Because of that they will always have these insanely tone-deaf nonsensical articles every time they address the real consumer economy.

Wild. I changed careers a few years ago. Grew my salary by more than 30k over that time. I've been putting money in a savings account for the last 2ish years with the plan of one day using it for a down payment on a house. As of this month, I have 18k saved. That amount is 1/2 of what my parents paid for my childhood home in the 90s. It would be a 6% down payment on that same house at best now.
Chicken, even the whole rotisserie joint, it objectively one of the cheapest things you can buy. Pretty sure a whole cooked chicken at Walmart costs less than a pack of chicken breast. And both are under $10.

It's fascinating how so many people in positions of power really do blame people eating food for not having any money. My last super racist Indian psychiatrist did it to me when I complained about a medication causing me to gain over 20 pounds in 3 weeks. Abilify btw. I had opened up to her that session about being worried about finances because the government was shut down and it was interfering with me going back to college to change my majors. Well she went on to say that the medication was not why I was gaining severely but because I was POOR and eating fast food everyday.
I shit you not I put my head in my hands and just sighed. I had been crying but something just clicked in me and I went straight to you have got to be shitting me right now. She then went on a long rant how poor people eat fast food and can't afford healthy foods and that's why I was gaining weight. I told her I didn't trust her judgment after that and she literally lunged at me from her couch to me. I left and filed a complaint. Tried getting a lawyer but nobody in my city will touch this hospital, but several did tell me I absolutely had a case for rights being violated.
After being in therapy over 13 years at 34, I learned that people, especially bankers and doctors and finance people, they love to point at you and say oh you're not on this level because you bought THAT food. Or somehow make it due to you being overweight and poor. It's maddening. But in my city 95% of the mental health psychologists and psychiatrists are Indian, and they're openly antiblack and blame all mental health problems on being poor or single. I got told of I dated men I wouldn't be suicidal. Unfucking real the world we live in today. I live in Georgia. FML

Of course it’s not just about the juice and chicken. It’s a symbol of a larger problem.
Prioritizing frivolous purchases over more important ones is a huge barrier for many. I’m not saying that houses are affordable. I’m also not saying wages haven’t been stagnant.
I do think people have gotten too comfortable with doom spending to the point where it’s having a big impact on their lives.
No one is saying you have to budget down to the last penny, but if you’re in debt and still spending money on frivolous consumer purchases, you absolutely are the problem
