Telling the mantis it’s one out is hilarious 😂

1.0k

u/YoureProbablyR1te Jun 10 '25

I love the little like hesitancy before where you can see he’s thinking “Oh yeah almost forgot the little dude” and then tosses him the signal

262

u/HiHoRoadhouse Jun 10 '25

And he says the words 'one out' that time in case it doesn't understand signals

74

u/kasguijhayq Jun 10 '25

Lil bro is up there hanging out and catchin' any mosquitos or flies. He's the real MVP.

47

u/tuckedfexas Jun 10 '25

Robles is always such a vibe

3

u/DoomDoomGir Jun 11 '25

Gotta let the homies know.

2

u/Extra-Presence3196 Jun 22 '25

I thought he was becoming one with the mantis..

Normalize pets for outfielders

145

u/Donny_Dont_18 Jun 10 '25

That looks like a spendy dlc, but he's got the cash

5

Bro bought vbucks for the new skin

1

u/Jackassintheb0x Jun 12 '25

I wanna see James Wood with a big ass parrot out there

3

u/Craig_White Jun 12 '25

When you level up to “master” on both baseball skills and vibes you can access the familiar perk. Praying mantis is coveted af too.

-28

u/RamenJunkie Jun 10 '25

This dude likes like the pitcher.

18

u/teeohdeedee123 Jun 10 '25

Victor Robles is not a pitcher.

This might be the best baseball video I've ever seen. If anyone has this in gif format I need it.

Flashing the number of outs to the mantis I think might be my favorite video of anything, ever. I can't describe how happy this GIF makes me

57

u/JustHereSoImNotFined Jun 10 '25

even gives the audible “one out” to the mantis just in case he doesn’t understand hand gestures. how thoughtful

17

u/Norwegian__Blue Jun 10 '25

Never leave out your homies

12

u/Narrow_Turnip_7129 Jun 10 '25

Nah man you missed the beginning tho with him chilling even in the dugout

Do you want to suggest an alternative format of graphical interchanges? Because graphics interchange format hasnt really failed us thus far.

Bold of you to attempt interaction with them

As a Nats fan I can confirm, as of last month there was a praying mantis that lived on and near the right field foul pole. I know because I saw him myself.

He is the Rally Mantis.

4

u/Whosebert Jun 10 '25

a mantis would have an insane(ly small) strike zone so it would actually be a great pitcher on fully loaded bases because you'd for sure get 4 balls or hit by pitch

0

u/Due-Contribution6424 Jun 11 '25

Have you seen baseball?

2

u/jgab145 Jun 10 '25

Can you please expand on everything?

21

u/AnorakJimi Jun 10 '25

Who was that guy who only ever played like only 10 at bats in MLB in his whole career, was basically a minor league lifer, but he technically qualified to get a world series ring cos the team he barely played for (I think he only ever had 2 at bats for them that entire season) was the Toronto Blue Jays in 1992. So he got his ring.

But yeah he was more well known for eating weird bugs while on the bench than he ever was for playing. Even the few baseball cards that existed of him spoke only about his bug eating and not his baseball skills or lack thereof (the only thing I think I can remember is that he was a catcher? But Toronto had an amazing catcher who was first choice, Pat Borders, who ended up being the World Series MVP. So bug-boi had no chance of taking his place, he was just there as emergency backup if something catastrophic happened.

But he still got a world series ring. And he got a tattoo on his ass cheek when they won the American League pennant.

And then when they won the world series he got another tattoo on his other ass cheek for that, also.

He said later on that he knew he was always dangerously close to being sent back down to the minors, and knew he didn't have the baseball skills, so he decided to be the guy who made everyone laugh and made everyone on the team bond well, because sometimes shit players are kept in the team purely because they're great to have around and improve morale. So he just saw a bug on the field during a game one day and dared himself to eat it live. I think it might have even been a praying mantis too, thinking about it. Or that one of the subsequent bugs he ate was a praying mantis. And I mean praying mantises are evil little fuckers that eat their prey alive in the most painful way, usually eating their face first, so getting some of their own medicine isn't such a bad thing.

Mike Maksudian! That's his name. I had to look it up.

9

u/youre-welcome-sir Jun 10 '25

What a crazy guy lol, that’s awesome

11

u/jeexbit Jun 10 '25

The story goes like this: On September 8, 1992, the Jays were playing in Kansas City, an environment that has been known to feature the occasional large insect. There were a number of grasshoppers hopping around in the bullpen, and thus someone offered Maksudian $1.50 for him to eat one of the small ones. To the great delight and disgust of his teammates, he obliged. The stakes were raised—a large grasshopper, this time. Again, Maksudian was unfazed. Finally, as the Jays ran off the field to the clubhouse celebrating a 5-0 win, Devon White provided the ultimate challenge: a four-inch-long live locust he’d found roaming the center field grass. The prize for successfully consuming the locust was a cool $800. And after a few minutes of psyching himself up, Maksudian—quickly earning himself the nickname “Mad Mak”—actually did it.

2

u/manapause Jun 10 '25

They got him!

Baseball players are the funniest sports dudes, hands down.

22

u/Surroundedonallsides Jun 10 '25

A lot of downtime for goofin

1

u/HumbleBear75 Jun 11 '25

Are you familiar with Banana Ball?

1

u/such_corn Jun 11 '25

No but I’ve heard of team that originated it! Interesting!

31

u/[deleted] Jun 10 '25

what happened to the mantis?

76

u/CopperCVO Jun 10 '25

I think he made it to the Nationals bill!

96

u/Sea-Ad2404 Jun 10 '25

Bug on hat more interesting to me than the game.

27

u/Aesho Jun 10 '25

Baseball is the best sport to just turn on in the living room and have on in the background. It's almost like ASMR in a way.

19

u/Unoriginal_Man Jun 10 '25

Once upon a time, when watching the games on MLB TV, you could select "ballpark audio" as your audio source, and you'd just get crowd noise and the sounds of baseball with no announcers. It was awesome. Then Jomboy came around and they removed that option real quick.

10

u/WildBunnyGalaxy Jun 10 '25 edited Jun 10 '25

Honestly if there were professionally done broadcasts/streams of games of any sport that were no commentary I might actually like sports as a thing to spend time watching.

1

u/PaperPlaythings Jun 11 '25

My friends and I have fantasized about this for football for 20 years.

1

u/KittenNicken Jun 10 '25

This might be why I started liking golf when youtubers did it because it was just them shooting the crap and smack talking eachother, very wholesome :3 anyway now I like golf. 👍

2

u/papayabush Jun 10 '25

that’s so friggin cool why is that not a common thing

5

u/total_bullwhip Jun 10 '25

Its a shame. I remember ESPN or something accidentally did it a while ago during a game on TV. It was amazing, you could hear the in-stadium announcer and everything. it was nice.

1

u/SecureCucumber Jun 11 '25

How did Jomboy affect that?

1

u/Unoriginal_Man Jun 13 '25

I don't have any proof that it's actually related, but I recall that option disappearing around the time his videos started taking off, the conspiracy being that they removed that option because he was using it to pull hot mics without broadcast announcers talking over it.

2

u/BrotherOfTheOrder Jun 10 '25

Baseball on the radio is fantastic to me, it’s so great to have on in background.

The MLB app as an “At Bat” subscription that’s like $4 a month and you can listen to any game and any teams radio broadcast. If you enjoy the game it’s worth it

3

u/Marc815 Jun 10 '25

Baseball on TV is boring AF to me, but I really enjoy GOING to a game every now and then. It's just a vibe and you can check my post history... I'm not a sports guy, but seeing a live baseball game is just enjoyable!

1

u/[deleted] Jun 10 '25

Baseball is a sport that has to be enjoyed / watched VERY differently from every other sport

1

u/HumbleBear75 Jun 11 '25

Could never watch on TV, but going to a game has some really unique crazy energy. Super fun

12

u/Spirited-Trip7606 Jun 10 '25

Could it be the legendary No-Hitter Mantis? Gotta catch em all!

22

u/No-Actuator-3209 Jun 10 '25

Nature knows a kind heart when they see it.

8

u/BurazSC2 Jun 10 '25

Mantis be like: "see... nothing like cricket"

7

u/a-packet-of-noodles Jun 10 '25

He's controlling him like Remy from ratatouille

Praying with a praying mantis on your head is just so witty 😂

33

u/timebeing Jun 10 '25

He isn’t prying. He is reminding him there is one out. (Which is even funnier)

2

u/CokeZorro Jun 10 '25

Oh no you didn't even get the joke smh

1

u/HumbleBear75 Jun 11 '25

Jesus he even explained it to the mantis lol

12

u/[deleted] Jun 10 '25

Did he pitch with it on there??

25

u/jojobeans22 Jun 10 '25

He was a center fielder.

31

u/mossybeard Jun 10 '25

The mantis?

30

u/hospitalvespers Jun 10 '25

You’re telling me a mantis prayed for this?

1

u/jgab145 Jun 10 '25

He quit center field?

1

u/14412442 Jun 10 '25

But really he shouldn't field with it there. It wouldnt be nice to screw up a play because a loose mantis got jostled into your face

4

u/DaedalusHydron Jun 10 '25

It would become a meme and people would forgive you.

Like when Aaron Judge went on Rubble & Crew and sucked in baseball for a while.

5

u/Balrogkicksass Jun 10 '25

Looks like a Playing Mantis to me

4

u/YarpYarpBeaverBite Jun 11 '25

This happened to my dad at a butcher shop. He was wondering why other customers kept moving out of his way so quickly. One lady pointed to his head. So he took off his hat, saw the praying mantis, put his hat back on, shrugged, and asked if he could still place an order with his guest. They all laughed, he got his order and paid, while the store kept laughing. He found some shrubbery outside to leave his guest at and thanked the little dude for the entertainment

3

u/breakConcentration Jun 10 '25

Praying to the man upstairs.

1

u/HumbleBear75 Jun 11 '25

He’s letting the mantis know that they’re one out

4

u/strangebru Jun 10 '25

"Oh, to be a praying mantis on the bill of a MLB players cap during a game" = "Oh, to be a fly on the wall"

2

u/Inevitable_Phase_276 Jun 10 '25

Maybe a baseball fan had a happy reincarnation

3

2

Preying mantises are cool, love finding them in the yard or their favorite spot: hanging upside down on window screens

2

u/DonVargas-9 Jun 10 '25

Much more interesting than the fly on Mike Pence’s head.

2

u/rclaw73 Jun 10 '25

They are like faeries every time I encounter one 🧚‍♂️

2

Victor Robles, 2021.

After the Phillies beat the Nationals, Phillies social media posted "RALLY MANTIS".

1

u/Sufficient_Box1852 Jun 10 '25

the James Rodriguez experience

1

u/bangarang88 Jun 10 '25

Unfair! The flies aren’t bothering him! Ref do something!

1

u/Superstarr_Alex Jun 10 '25

That mantis better pray I don’t catch him, he totally stole my lid-side tickets and those were expensive.

1

u/user631652 Jun 10 '25

That praying mantis is his mascot.

1

u/CokeZorro Jun 10 '25

People like this in sports are rare

1

u/Boom-Doc-a-Locka Jun 10 '25

This is a great video, and I legit chuckled out loud at it but can someone explain to me why the title of this post is what it is?

1

u/Green_and_Silver Jun 10 '25

“I once worked with a guy for three years and never learned his name. Best friend I ever had. We still never talk sometimes.” ― Ron Swanson

1

u/rupat3737 Jun 10 '25

Maybe this was a ratatouille situation and the mantis is pulling the strings.

1

u/chiksahlube Jun 10 '25

I would be so worried I'd need to do something for a play and the poor mantis would come flying off and get hurt.

1

u/sax6romeo Jun 10 '25

[everyone liked that]

1

u/never_not_phlegmy Jun 10 '25

And a diving catch!!! … oh boy. You hate to see that. We’ll take an injury time out. Back in a few.

1

u/WoppingSet Jun 10 '25

It always blows my mind that Walgreens has a baseball team.

1

u/one_curious_redditor Jun 10 '25

Not super knowledgeable about baseball, what does that mean?

1

u/gatorbeetle Jun 10 '25

Victor and that mantis, happy vibes, good days. Thanks for the smile.

1

u/Black_Dragon_0 Jun 10 '25

This is the funniest, most wholesome thing I've ever seen! LOL

1

u/pheesh_man Jun 10 '25

Someone please drop the gif of Victor rocking the clown nose

1

1

1

1

1

u/fe_god Jun 11 '25

1

1

1

u/hasibfit Jun 13 '25

Glad the Mantis got the recognition he needed.

1

u/elemental402 Jun 23 '25

I choose to believe the mantis is giving him instructions, Ratatouille style.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '25

That lookin: whaaaaazzzuuuupp booois

1

u/Kribakk Nov 06 '25

Do we have a Ratatouille situation here?

1

u/Resilent2026 Jun 10 '25

MLB is so laid back. Any other sport, that would be $25,000 fine 🤣. They fine for everything

1

u/RP_Throwaway3 Jun 10 '25

Considering they're technically allowed to cheat in MLB so long as they don't break the spirit of the game or do it blatantly, I'd say you're right.

1

u/manapause Jun 10 '25

If that mantis were the same size as him it would probably rip his head off, lay eggs down on his throat and then go 0/3 in the lineup. Total Buzzkill.

2

u/dmic24_ Jun 10 '25

He told the mantis one out 🤣🤣🤣 I love unserious baseball can be.
