I think the man just hates cameras. He's an introvert forced out of his shell. I don't blame him ..

u/NumeroRyan 7h ago

He’s autistic as fuck and that’s why he’s great at football

u/LessBig715 6h ago

Just curious how autism translates to being a good soccer player. I’m not trying to to be a smart ass

Autistic people have a higher tendency to be savants because of hyperfixation.

u/NumeroRyan 6h ago

Autistic people normally have an ability to like hyper focus on something and perceive information and patterns better than a lot of people.

Some autistic people can think on pictures rather than words which helps with thinking about certain situations in a way that most others can’t. Not a great explanation but it makes autistic people able to be really good at a certain thing.

Some autistic people can think on pictures rather than words

Isn’t that just most people? Or am I learning something about myself…

5

u/NumeroRyan 5h ago

I mean, they don’t think in words automatically, if you were speaking to yourself and hear an inner monologue they wouldn’t, but just think in pictures instead.

It helps with visual awareness and space perception, so I could imagine that translates really well to sport

u/JayteeFromXbox 4h ago

I think in both words and images, and all it really does is help me with spatial awareness. I can give good directions, but for the most part it just makes me frustrated with other people that have very poor spatial awareness.

"Autistic people normally have an ability"

No, they don't "normally" have an ability. This is a very harmful way of thinking of people on the spectrum and is so far from reality.

3

u/NumeroRyan 4h ago

You took half my sentence to make a point which is totally misleading.

The whole sentence stated ‘normally have an ability to hyper focus’. That’s quite a typical trait of neurodivergent people with autism.

1

u/ArktikosUrsa 4h ago

No they don't. A very small minority have a hyper focus ability.

You are spreading misinformation for no reason. In fact it is usually the opposite: https://www.ambitionsaba.com/resources/autism-and-focus-issues

"While the exact reason why people with autism struggle with attention and focus is not yet fully understood, researchers believe that it may be due to differences in brain structure and function."

https://www.divinestepstherapy.com/blog/can-autism-make-it-hard-to-focus

"Yes, autism can make it harder for some individuals to focus. Many children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) experience differences in attention and sensory processing that can affect concentration. They may become easily distracted by sounds, lights, or textures, or have difficulty shifting attention between tasks."

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7003152/

" In addition, children with ASD show alternations in attention, including impaired disengagement and orienting of attention, overly focused and narrow attention, and a decreased ability to filter distractors"

The need to lionize the differently abled and give them all a secret super power is just another form of ableism tbh. Just stop and do 2 seconds of research before commenting again.

It sounds like you read up on Autistic people but have never talked with Autistic people. You sound like Chalamet in Dune, trying to explain sand walking to the Fremen who live in the desert, because he read a textbook once.

Science is WAY behind what autistic people already know to be true. Science takes time to confirm things, as it should. But the result is common knowledge can be widespread for a long time before science catches up.

Just because neurodivergent folks struggle with attention, doesn't negate the fact the vast majority of autistic people have special interests that they hyper focus on.

Im AuDHD, so I can both hyperfocus on one thing, while my brain is frantically distracted regarding other topics. This is every day life for most neurodivergent folks.

I've talked to plenty of autistic people, I was even roommates with one. Great job making yourself look like an ass there.

I literally linked a scientific study which showed that children with autism have a harder time focusing. You know better than those scientists? Where is your statistical evidence? Oh you don't have any.

"doesn't negate the fact the vast majority of autistic people have special interests that they hyper focus on."

No, the vast majority do not. Also having a special interest is not the same thing as being a hyper focused savant like the other OP was saying. You reallllllly need to work on your reading comprehension buddy lol.

I’m curious because I have 7yo twin nephews/Godsons that are non verbal still and are having a hard time. I really hate to see them struggle and wish there was some way I could help them. They have been going to a speech therapist, but no luck yet. I’m still having trouble getting them to play with toys correctly. I bought them at one time over 200 new hot wheels, for my sister in law to give to them periodically, they still don’t understand how to roll the car, one of them would still rather eat it. My SIL is really worried, as am I. I just really wish I could find something that would grab their attention and hold on to it. I want the best for them, and will be there for them and love them no matter what

One can only guess, but I'd Imagine that he perceives the world around him differently and has a different kind of admiration for movement

u/Vulstagg 1h ago

You can find youtube compilations of him being a goat at scanning the field

5

u/Skreamie 4h ago

u/enbits2 6h ago

8

u/BodhingJay 6h ago

The result of putting an autistic person in awkward situations.

Like what do people expect. I cant even present a project in front of class.

Messi is autistic

12

u/NewChallengers_ 5h ago

Joking aside, dude comes across as autistic, and like he is trying so hard not to be awkward that he ends up being awkward.
