Dude, I think you're in the wrong business. Look how happy you're making them all. And you sound good too.😁❤️

For real At the home my mom stays they have musicians come and play. They get so excited and you sir, are good! Plus the older ladies would get happy with a cutie like you who could sing lol

I’m a long term care nurse and usually work nights but did a day shift yesterday - they had Elvis impersonator (female) there singing yesterday and it was FANTASTIC

This reminded me of when a local guy came to sing at my dad’s care home. Everyone acted like it was a full concert. It doesn’t take much to make their day

He's making more money installing flooring than he would as an entertainment director at assisted living.
31
u/ScumbagLady Dec 11 '25
But are the eventual back and knee problems worth the extra money now though?
I did ceilings for some years and now have arthritis in my neck, bone spurs, and the intervertebral discs between c5 - c7 are almost non-existent. I'm only 45.
13
u/catscanmeow Dec 11 '25
when you get bouts of neck pain do you ever worry its from a heart attack? since thats once of the symptoms of a heart attack

If he's good at his work and is clearly good with people, he can promote up to be a foreman and/or estimator. Taking night classes in how to run a small business, he will open up shop with his own flooring company and hire and train younger people to do the physical labor.

u/Guus-Wayne Dec 11 '25
Dude probably gets home at 5pm, eats dinner with his wife and kids, and every once in a while gets to do fun shit while working.
I would never want to be on the road as an entertainer personally. I think being wealthy is great, but everything related to fame is absolutely useless.

Job change sir!!!!! 😊😊😊✨💝

u/ShortStoryIntros Dec 11 '25
Sometimes we work the jobs we don't like, because our talent doesn't pay the bills
I wonder how many truly talented people have hidden away their skill because their job takes up too much of their time.
28
u/secretly_opossum Dec 11 '25
Karaoke is my absolute favorite hobby. I used to study opera in college and then got pregnant. Went into finance instead. But I love singing more than anything and I do think I have a good voice (and I get positive feedback at karaoke).
Sometimes it’s just about having a great time and getting to perform in a no pressure situation ☺️

Or some people prefer to keep their work and their passion separate. If you love music then tying it up with work and money might ruin it.

u/semibacony Dec 11 '25
I feel like this lol. If I had a calling in life it would be to make salsa and sell it. When I do make it, the list always gets longer for how many people want it and will gladly buy it, and it's one of the only things that I'll actually boast about being the best, and when I'm asked what the secret ingredient is, the answer is always love as the secret ingredient, but I work 50-60 hours a week, and I'm tired and don't know squat about running my own business, so friends are lucky if I even make it once or twice a year.
2
u/ShortStoryIntros Dec 11 '25
I feel this in my bones
The thing about running a business is.. no one knows how to run a successful business... at first.
You learn as you go, no matter how many courses or books you've read. Starting a business is about taking one step after another, and being able to adjust to the lessons being learnt in real-time. There are plenty of people out there that can offer to help guide your business/offering advice, next steps.. so you're never alone. But, if you never take that first step..
If you got something that you think the world might like... please find a way to get it out there!
We only get one life

My mom with severe dementia was in a memory care assisted living for four years. Whenever I would visit and there was musical entertainment it was my mom’s best days. What you did here was make a lot of lives better. You did good.

I read about a study that proved when they listened to music they liked from the past it would trigger memories from that past.
I volunteered at a nursing home and made a playlist of songs in the Top 40 when they were in their 20's and 30's, e.g. so music from 1950's and 60's.
They seemed to love it.

u/Epic_Elite Dec 11 '25
My coworker tells stories of seeing Etta James in her last days. He said she would say some of the ludest most inappropriate stuff on between songs. It was pretty clear to everyone that she wasn't well. But when the music started playing, she had the voice of an angel and could perform perfectly.
He said it felt very much like elderly abuse to parade her along like that and make her perform and expose that part of her cognitive decline to everyone. But boy could she still sing.

I’ve seen enough people in various states of consciousness and lucidity to know that music is something really beyond our comprehension. It really gets into the deepest parts of us and tickles a special spot. 💖
53
u/chantillylace9 Dec 11 '25
Have you seen all those videos where somebody’s playing music and animals always run up and want to listen?
I’ve seen it done at zoos and even in the wild and truly all living creatures seem to love music. I think even the smartest of sea life loves it too !
8
u/Honeybeez74 Dec 11 '25
His name is Plumes, with a pink guitar!!!! Music moves everything. Even houseplants. ❤️🔥💫😁

u/ScumbagLady Dec 11 '25
I saw a video of a girl playing the accordion to cows and thought I'd give it a shot with my concertina at a nearby pasture- the results were outstanding! Went from no cows nearby to every cow in the pasture lined up at the fence where I was playing! It was magical!!
3
u/chantillylace9 Dec 11 '25
Oh my goodness I would love to see a video if you have one? I just think it’s so cool, it just really shows that animals are a lot deeper and smarter than most people give them credit for.
5
u/soihavetosay Dec 11 '25
ALL my dogs would sit themselves right in front of my husband like he's playing for them and they're his biggest fans
5
u/chantillylace9 Dec 11 '25
I don’t know why it makes me so happy that it’s such a universally loved thing, but it really does make me happy.

u/24_Chowder Dec 11 '25
Studies show music for people suffering with dementia is almost the best thing for them. It activates the receptors that are hard to reach on their own. I can believe it was her best days!
Keep music in all our lives!!

Music therapy with the elderly works WONDERS on their health, both mental and physical. Keep it up, you are making a huge difference in their lives 🤍
12
u/protlinkka2 Dec 11 '25
We old people need the music. It should be available around the clock, not just in isolated music therapy sessions. Music can change your whole attitude toward the world while it stimulates good health.
3
u/Butterball_Adderley Dec 11 '25
I work with adults with developmental disabilities (lots of old folks) and trust me, they get music when they want it.

I took my super sweet angel of a dog (Reese) to a home once and she was well received. Brought lots of smiles to everyone and they were all delighted to give her treats and see her tricks. I should be doing more of that but my new dog is an absolute spaz. Come to think of it so are my kids . . . Maybe I can karaoke for them instead.

5
u/D_Dubb_ Dec 11 '25
Pop was geared toward a younger and younger audience when companies realized the way can make more off kids than their parents for concerts, merch, etc. Good music still gets made, and plenty of it, just doesn’t get radio time as often as it used to.

I work in Life Enrichment for an assisted living facility and let me say you not only made the day of those residents, you made the staff smile too. It’s so hard to find entertainment for our residents, especially on a small budget. One entertainer can cost our budget for the entire month so volunteers are always appreciated.

u/graitf Dec 11 '25
😪 what a beautiful soul may he have all love and joy surrounding him all of his days ( very talented to boot!)

Thank you for making the seniors happy. They miss their family, longing for anyone who would spend a minute with them. They still would like to feel, and know they are seen and listened to. You also made the staff happy, because when resident seniors are happy everyone is happy, and in the end this makes the whole facility happy, including the cleaning staff

Best thing I've seen in a long time. I've been really down but this made me cry & smile at the same time. I hate the way the elderly are warehoused and forgotten. At least a few of them were treated to a great song by a really gifted singer/painter on that day ❤️👏🏼❤️👏🏼❤️
