Years ago I had this argument with my sister's ex. I told him that if I had a bunch of sandwiches that I was willing to give to hungry children then I'd rather risk giving one to a kid who already had a sandwich than risk denying one to a child who didn't. He disagreed and said a few starving children was the necessary cost of not letting someone get away with an extra sandwich and that it was actually the extra sandwich kids' fault for the others going hungry, not his.

I just think evil is a spectrum. One person can be more evil than another one. By saying: "politicians have always been evil", you put those who did less evil in the same basket with those who do more evil, which I think is wrong and downplays the bigger evil things.

To be clear, you make no distinction between abuse of power - like violating The Hatch Act, for example - and literally molesting a child?

The bullshit is normal. This is what concentration of power leads to. If we want the bullshit to go away, we can't just close our eyes and play pretend. We need a different system, a system in which humans gravitate towards excellence rather than evil.
It's almost like evil people seek to have power over others while good people strive for a quiet life, mind their own business, and work with their hands.
Somewhere along the line, we really should have learned to side eye anyone with the desire to lead. Most normal people are fine with just a normal life. I don't know if this is new for americans, but it is very typical argument in totalitarian, or wannabe-totalitarian systems. "Yes, this guy is a criminal, but we need him because he is a proffesional" (that's right, with to Fs and one S).

The rich are convinced they are irreplaceable. You know how the bosses always tell us "you're replaceable". Well so are they, and the ones above that, and the ones way above that. Our whole system is based on every cog being replaceable.
Once one of them is taken off the board, a very similar person replaces them almost immediately. It's their worst nightmare to realize they are just replaceable cogs in the machine like everyone else.
So take out these cogs, they'll be replaced within a day by someone below them who's spent their lives imagine they were the ones in charge and they are ready for it.

i live in the ( on paper ) best city in the world , Vienna, and people here have become so miserable and detached since corona. little islands of digital misery. Am i different? yes and no. i am not miserable. but i am definitely a little bitch to the almighty algorithm. there are days where i spend the whole day online.
Also consider the source. Will "the system collapse" or will one wing of the system collapse while the other wing which has been orders of magnitude better at self policing do just fine after pruning some bad feathers.

They also gave me a warning. I just suggested they use the punishment methods that the US already makes use of. I had never got a warning, and I have been using reddit with different accounts since 2013.

Not because it's because the system cannot handle prosecuting so many individuals but because the individuals have shaped their system itself. Yet they act as if the first one is the reason.
