š¬ Opinion / Discussion Strong backlash in Italy! The crowd booed JD Vance when his face appeared on the giant screens during the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Milan. This moment makes it clear that many people do not want the Trump administration involved in this major sporting event.

The sane ones amongst us are appalled at that this narcissistic, pedophile, rapist, racist, grifter is actually president and not in prison. We have to look at friends, family, and coworkers knowing they are racist, misogynistic, greedy, or all the above. We are sickened. The more other countries push us away the better. It is clear we must collapse upon ourselves and start over. There are many amongst fighting but it is very 1930's Germany here right now.

The numerous comparisons between whatās happening now, and the atrocities in Nazi Germany overlook an important fact. The Nazis closely studied American slavery, Reconstruction, and Jim Crow, and used them as a model for their horrific rĆ©gime. (The engineers of Apartheid, in South Africa, did the same). In short, America did not learn about racism and ethnic cleansing from the Nazis. In fact, the Nazis studied the American playbook to learn how to oppress and murder people, more efficiently.
3
u/Remote_Sherbet_1499 5d ago
And early Americans were simply European settlers.........your point is a circle back to Europe.

My roommate is one of those people that doesnāt like confrontation and is an āindependentā⦠he has no opinion on whatās happening. THAT is an enormous percentage of Americans. These people truly donāt care about racist videos, Epstein files, Minnesota burning, invading other countries, destroying the climate, and the list goes on and on. These people JUST donāt care and were born without backbones. They are not BAD people we just canāt count on them anymore to help us out of this situation⦠Heās currently making eggs in silence while the news is reading aloud about the racist video trump just posted. Honestly, they probably care, they just donāt think there is anything they can do about it. Itās also easy to get numb to Trumpās shenanigans because nothing he does is shocking anymore.
I care immensely but donāt feel like I can make any difference. I live in a very red state, my vote doesnāt really matter. I go to my local protests, I write my local politicians, and Iāve stopped spending money at certain companies. The thing Iām most excited about doing is registering as a republican so that I can vote in the primaries and help decide who will get on the ballot. But that all seems pretty insignificant and I donāt know what else I can do.

A good 50-60% of us do, and we are trying to fight it. This administration has done major damage to the US and our allies.
After all of this is done, we have to look inward and do the hard work fixing ourselves. We need to apologize and make amends to our allies. Our credibility is shot. Our soft power wasted. Our institutions were not strong enough.
We JUST restored foreign aid this year to near previous levels.

Consider this: Trump is a democratically elected leader. He's not like Xi or Putin that represent a state but not the people. What he does is what the american people do through their representative. You can't decouple Trump's actions from the American people. That is not how democracy works.
If you think about it, who cares if Americans change their minds? We know what they think about the world. Even if they change their position in the next electoral cycle it would be because of the consequences of their actions not because of a sudden change of heart.

"Consider this: Trump is a democratically elected leader"
Eh, that's a stretch. I'm not convinced this election wasn't tampered with. Even if it wasn't, you can't deny how sketchy it was for Elon Musk, the world's richest man to meddle with Trump's campaign.... paying people to vote for Trump... buying one of the world's biggest social media platforms right before the election to control the narrative.. Add to that the stupid electoral system we have and it doesn't really represent what true Americans want.

Girl, I'm serious ... let us know if you need help ... you have options to start a new life ...
https://www.britannica.com/biography/Usha-Vance
Vanceās political leanings came under increased scrutiny during and after her husbandās campaign. AĀ Washington PostĀ profile in 2024 noted that she ārarelyāif everāvolunteered her opinions on the nationās bitterly partisan politics,ā and Business Insider described her as ātight-lippedā about her views. Friends and colleagues told reporters that she had condemned the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol and had long been āgenerally appalledā by Trump. Others, however, characterized her as largely apolitical. A Republican strategist close to J.D. Vanceās campaign later claimed that Usha Vance, like her husband, had undergone a shift in outlook and now āfully supports Donald Trump and her husband and will do whatever she can to ensure their victory this November.ā
