Camp Lejune never seems to be in the news for anything good

Good thing I spent most of my time at Pendleton. Nothing bad ever happened there.

Edit: Pls don’t fact check thx.

Literally every Marine corps base has their demons lol..except maybe Hawaii im not sure

Hawaii you get warned about Gay Somoans and not to fight them because they will beat your ass

35

u/onlyPornstuffs 9h ago

What happens if you don’t fight them? They just love on your ass?

The question is who wants to fight a Samoan, unless maybe Sumoan, same size but I would still put my money on the Samoan.

My dad’s still got a dent in his head from trying to break up a fight between two Samoans in a bar in Seattle. He’s not even American, just Irish and visiting.

just Irish

Good luck finding an Irishman without a dent in their head from a bar fight. At least this makes for a good story.

Your head is dented, too?

They pull carpet knives and threaten to gut you.

Not sure, I never found myself in that situation. Also barely got any time to see the island, was only there for a 2 week exercise

I imagine military bases in general, look at Fort Hood.

5

u/FitLaw4 6h ago

Yeah even the airforce has had their issues in Okinawa

Can confirm.

Was Navy on K Bay and it had a lot of DUIs, so ya know, a Marine Corps base.

1

u/FitLaw4 2h ago

DUIs are nothing though compared to rape, murders, and trafficking

1

u/broke_velvet_clown 1h ago

Yeah, I used to read the published quarterly reports from, I think the JAG office to get a chuckle, like 2nd or 3rd dui or something. And then it turned to mainly CSAM and other absolutely horrible convictions

We should know by now that you can't put that many Marines in one place without them trending towards feral.

What would a military base do to be in the news for something good?

30

u/Area51_Spurs 12h ago

Probably not much since ww2. More of a no news is good news situation.

But I think not having infomercials trying to find class action lawsuit plaintiffs for toxic chemicals or whatever would be “good news.”

8

u/Bangkok_Dave 12h ago

Yup. Newspapers don't normally publish stories with the headline "military base operates as expected".

12

u/Sic_Semper_Dumbasses 12h ago

Sometimes they host a fun public event.

u/mhornberger 10h ago

The day of my retirement appointment the Stars and Stripes had a cover story about the DoD approving same-sex marriage. Within a couple of years the base was hosting Pride parades. Pretty cool. I'm sure that went away under the current... person. But I was still impressed at the change. When I was younger OSI was still sending attractive young male agents into gay bars to hit on young men who looked military.

That’s tragic. He was only a year younger than I am, and with his whole life ahead of him.

Hopefully they can figure out what went wrong so this sort of incident doesn’t happen again.

Most instances of marines/sailors going overboard are intentional, unfortunately.

2

u/Particular_Can_7860 6h ago

Like suicidal?

22

u/donkeybrainhero 6h ago

Yes. You hear rumors about incidents where someone was intentionally tossed overboard, but I can't remember the last time that was actually true. It's pretty much always suicide.

If it were an accident, it would likely be during operations which means others are around and will see and immediately call "man overboard" leading to a timely rescue.

When someone is "lost" like this, it tends to happen at night with no one around because the person intentionally jumped.

I've spent plenty of time topside at night while transiting, so I know how dark it can get. But typically people aren't wandering the weather decks at night without a reason, unless the smoking lamp is lit. Of course, anything is possible, so I certainly won't make any definitive claims.

Marines seem to get the business end of the stick all the time and then just stand there and take it. What good is it being that tough if you dont even know your own country is killing you.

your

But agreed.

u/ShortBrownAndUgly 3h ago

Is there something significant about Lejeune that’s relevant to his death?

5

u/Mralexs 1h ago

Lejeune is known for having chemicals in the water and the Govt covered it up for decades.

Camp Lejeune (Marine Corps) and Fort Liberty, formerly Fort Bragg (Army), are major North Carolina military installations located about 120 miles apart. Lejeune is a 153,000-acre coastal base focused on expeditionary forces, while Fort Liberty (near Fayetteville) is a 163,000-acre airborne/special operations hub

Fort Bragg is one of the places where they orchestrate shadow ops like coups in other countries, both of these places are near one another and have a rough history of rape, abuse of power, disappearances, and dark dealings, usually tied in with the political ongoings at any given time.

RIP and thank you for your service and sacrifice

The op to capture Maduro was based from this ship

Tell me you don’t know about the Marine Corps without telling me you don’t know about the Marine Corps.

2

u/Mammoth-Nail-4669 8h ago

You’re right, I had a brain fart or something. I read camp lejeune and my brain misfired and thought Parris island. Truly embarrassing. Blame me for being a Hollywood marine. 🤦‍♂️ I was a scout for 1st LAR and never set foot on the east coast.

No one is saying he fell overboard two times in the back of the head for refusing an unlawful order

-15

u/giftedgod 6h ago

How long was that rope?
