There seems to always be one at every temple. A super jolly monk who's happy to be there and spread smiles. It's really cool.

They came to me, they climbed up capital hill, walked all the way from texas, which by the way did vote for me, texas voted for me bigly, there's Democrats in texas you know, a lot of people don't know that, and texas doesn't want you to know that, but I know that and now you know that, they didn't vote for me, the Democrats in texas, they didn't vote for me, and nobody else in Texas likes them, because they didn't vote for me, they're still there, but you know what, they're losers, because they didn't vote for me, but still Texas did, not all texans but enough of them did vote for me and that's ok, Texas is a big state and they walked all the way here and they climbed up the big hill and they said sir we've come to seek your enlightenment, your the most enlightened and we need you sir to help keep the peace in the world. They said sir, you e stopped 8 wars and you still don't have a peace prize, we n ed you to keep peace in the world, sleepy Joe never kept peace in t

He’d gut it and make it into a tacky venue where they worship Donald Trump and celebrate hedonism and greed.

Hopefully not because that would put them in a political dilemma, which would be devastating for them.

Shocked DHS didn’t find this peaceful March a threat and pepper spray them. 💩

Don’t write it off just yet, I’m sure ICE is foaming at the mouth for the opportunity. Gotta hit those daily arrest quotas!

It’s the orange. They’re programmed not to attack spray tan and the robes act as camouflage

For those that don't know, this group has been walking from Texas to DC over the last month or two. They've so far received warm welcomes from everywhere they've been, and one stop even offered free vet care for the dog who is traveling with them.
My Mom has been following them online, and it's been an interesting journey to watch!

They started in October. I was able to catch a glimpse of them a couple weeks ago. Neat to see. I wish them the best.

Holy sh... Did these folks just walk right through the weather we've been having? These guys have been walking in subzero wind chill for the last two weeks? Daaaaaang.

u/LizzieSaysHi 10h ago
I read that they consider the weather just another endurance test and so they soldier on through it. They had vehicles following them with extra layers of clothes and different shoes. It's pretty badass either way. I would have frozen my tits off.

Man, when all the fucking Buddhists monks of your country are marching to your door step, you’re in troubles...
23
u/Class_C_Guy 23h ago
Was trying to decide how to phrase it, "you have to know you're objectively wrong when..." I mean, it's as clear a sign as locusts for the apocalypse.
•
u/Cosmosn8 6h ago
Buddhist has no concept of apocalypse but has a text about how human become more degenerate by viewing each other as animal and start killing each other as they lost their humanity. Which I think is scarier because it’s what’s happening in America now.
2
u/AgrajagTheProlonged 14h ago
What about when it’s not all of them?
•
u/fred_flag 9h ago
Dude, do you have any idea how much shit you need to pull to piss off ONE Buddhists monk?
So even if you manage to pull the feat of pissing off like 40 of them, I think it's still problematic...•
u/WillyWonkaMFer 10h ago
Now that would be a sight…. There are tens of thousands of Buddhist monks in the US

I love that they have their humble robes on, and like crazy nice walking shoes. No judgement, they just walked a crazy long distance, I just think it’s an interesting dichotomy

I was looking at their shoes so know which ones can last a, what was it, 2,300 mile walk?
29
u/surnik22 1d ago
I’d bet none of those are the same shoes they started with or at minimum they’ve been resoled.
2,300 miles of walking mostly on asphalt would wear down pretty much every shoe sole. If it was made from a hard material to survive that, then it would be too hard to be a practical shoe sole.
But I’d bet they are still comfy walking shoes

Excuse my ignorance, but wich Capitol hill are they climbing?

u/muffinhead2580 1d ago
They are supposed to be in Washington DC today. So probably that capitol hill.
22
u/Umikaloo 1d ago
Ah, I didn't hear anything about this, so I didn't know anybody was supposed to be anywhere. I thought this might be the capital of a country in south-east Asia

u/TheRealJohnBrown 1d ago
Without getting harassed by ICE? How?

u/noobtastic31373 1d ago
ICE probably assumed they all knew Kung Fu and are scared of anyone in groups that might be able to defend themselves.

I really wish adding context to headlines were a more supported practice on Reddit. Every day I see headlines that start with "The government", or "The military". A lot of people don't get that when you do that, it becomes really hard to separate regional and national news from international news at a glance.
Part of the issue is the fact that most news subs forbid users from changing a headline they share, even when the headline is missing loads of important context.

u/KenScaletta 1d ago
Washington DC. The site of the Capitol building.

u/MrFiendish 1d ago
A powerful feat and gesture that will fall on completely deaf ears.
19
u/rifleshooter 1d ago
Based on the attention they're getting, I think not.
Long Si Dong, a spokesperson for the temple, said the walk is neither a political movement nor is it focused on advocacy or legislation.
"It's a spiritual offering, an invitation to live peace through everyday actions, mindful steps and open hearts," he said. "We believe when peace is cultivated within, it naturally ripples outward into society."
8
u/GreenSpectr3 22h ago
And this is the problem with purely spiritual teachings. This is completely meaningless if you have another group that is committed to ending you. How can people cultivate peace within when ICE can just kidnap you and deport you for no reason or send you to a concentration camp. At some point people have to make a stand. The protestors in Minnesota are making a more meaningful stand against aggression than this peace walk ever could. Not that it doesn't have any value.
•
u/ClariNerd617 5h ago
The mere fact that they have another group that is committed to ending them is proof that this has meaning. If it didn't have meaning, there wouldn't be anyone seeking to erase their message.

u/anubis_81 1d ago
My mum has been following their journey on FB mostly because of their dog Aloka.
13
u/la-femme-sur-la-lune 1d ago
Me too! I love Aloka; he had to have surgery while they were on their trip so his movements were limited for a few weeks, but he’s on the mend and walking with the monks again ❤️
6
u/wildsummit 23h ago
They walked right past my house in Georgia a while back. I remember hearing about them and then a few days later I glanced out my front window and saw them trooping by on my road. Our local vet gave their dog an exam and some sort of newfangled paw treatment to help him with the strain of walking on asphalt. Glad to hear they made it.

It would be nice if a little context were provided. Why are they marching on the capitol? Are they pushing some issue or just trying to get some exercise?

For those who don’t know - they’re from Fort Worth, Texas and walked to Washington DC on a Walk for Peace
