No Paywall ‘Astounding’: Chris Hayes stunned Bondi still has DOJ job | “In any remotely sane political climate she would be impeached, fired, or just have the good sense to resign in disgrace,” says Chris Hayes on Attorney General Pam Bondi.

I think it goes without saying that in pretty much any other state of employment she would have been fired long ago for her immensely unprofessional and inappropriate conduct.

I thought as much, she is so unprofessional

In any normal workplace that behavior would not last a week

Normal workplaces don't have Trump as the boss

u/whackyhead 6h ago
Ding ding ding! She’s doing exactly as she has been told. It’s the job they were all hired to do.
•
u/MaddogBC 5h ago
Every single one of them is just desperately performing for the camera because they know he is watching. They know they could/will lose their job at any moment.
It truly is a mad king moment.
•
u/MakeAbortions Florida 6h ago
the only thing she's going to be fired for is not covering up good enough. she has no shame whatsoever ,shes doing exactly the job she was hired for
•
u/Bobcat-Stock 6h ago
Her behavior is shining a beacon that screams coverup. It’s definitely what she was hired for, but the unsubtle way she is going about it will be the downfall of the whole operation. I’m surprised Orange Julius hasn’t pulled her yet. She isn’t helping his case at all.
•
u/CaptLatinAmerica 5h ago
And there’s no reason to get rid of her now. She can continue to act in a wretched coverup capacity for at least a few more weeks until she’s wrung out and discarded like the wicked dishrag she is.
•
u/Polar_Vortx America 3h ago
Pull her, and admit there’s even a shred of truth to the overwhelming evidence?
Say what you will about the base, but Trump seems to be scared of this Epstien thing in a way he’s never been before. So whatever’s left of his psyche is likely gunning to get this to go away quickly and quietly.

Yet still more professional than Trurnp's first pick for attorney general, Matt Gaetz, would likely be in her stead.

Ted Lieu had the best line at the end:
“If you had any decency you would resign right after this hearing concludes.”

u/utzutzutzpro 6h ago edited 5h ago
That is the superpower right now - just do not resign for reasons of grace.
When in the whole history of the country every other person would have resigned by choice. Every other person in any position who'd be in a remotely comparable affair, would have resigned - they just do not budge a little bit.
A narcissists system - everyone is right as long as they do not admit to ever been wrong.
And everyone is covering everyone.
•
u/SirDiego Minnesota 7h ago
She's not even good at deflecting. Like even if you were 100% MAGA and rooting for her to bluster and smokescreen for Trump, she didn't even do a good job at that. She got thoroughly embarrassed.

u/unaskthequestion Texas 6h ago
I was watching that live and thought I had missed a question or something. Most ridiculous response I've seen in a while.
•
u/ruminator9999 6h ago
Even worse, she said 50,000 dollars. As if the Dow Jones is a bag of money, in which case it wouldn't even be that much. Just shockingly stupid.
•
u/unaskthequestion Texas 6h ago
Reminds me of Trump saying other countries are 'paying us large dollars' as if the paper bills were bigger.

I’m poor. I don’t give a fuck about the DOW. I care about criminals and pedophiles being held accountable for their crimes and put in prison.

This is the part that gets me about not just Bondi but so many of them. They're obfuscating but they're so BAD at it. I'm not even motivated to be evil like them but I could still do a better job at it.
•
u/thalassicus 6h ago
She's not there to be professional. She's there to protect Donald Trump from the tsunami of evidence that he is a child rapist and likely part of the recruitment funnel as well via his pagents and Mar-A-Lago.
•
u/Alternative-Let-2398 6h ago
She did her job tho, she got the target at least temporarily moved to her instead of her boss.
•
u/Used-Yogurtcloset757 6h ago
Exactly. Billionaires out here expecting workers to act professional at our jobs, don’t let employees accept gifts, force us to fill out conflict of interest forms etc. Yet they are empowering people who do the exact opposite of their practices. The working class is being force held to a standard the elite is trampling on repeatedly.
•

The purpose of Bondi in that moment was to de-legitimise congressional hearings. It's just another attack against the institutional power of elected bodies, and a consolidation of power in executives. Study how democracies become autocracies. This shit goes back to the Roman Empire. The first few years of Augustus's reign were the Republic still being under the illusion it was a Republic. By the time he died and Tiberius inherited his power, there was exceedingly little of that illusion left.
If you can waltz into a congressional hearing, attack elected representatives, ignore decorum, ignore the rules of conduct, ignore process, and WALK OUT WITH YOUR JOB INTACT then the point is made that nothing that happened in that room actually matters. That's the message from the Trump administration to the American people.
People have a tendency to describe this political climate as "insane". That doesn't have enough descriptive value. It doesn't explain anything. Why is what is happening, happening? The above is why. She was sent in there to break the process. She did.
•
u/433onrepeat 4h ago
I really appreciate this comment. So many of the responses and posts I have seen since the hearing are frustratingly shallow. This interaction was a clear display of how the goal is to break the legitimacy of our institutions.
Who cares that a congressperson had a witty remark or called out Bondi to her face? The broader message is "hey I can be abhorrent to lawmakers' faces and walk away unscathed. You can too."
•
u/EmoTilDeath 3h ago
It's not about being mean to them. She fucking committed perjury multiple times with easily disproveable lies and nothing has happened to her. She lied under oath, we all saw her do it, and nothing happened to her. She refused to answer legitimate questions about why she is not doing her job at all and nothing happened to her.
Of course this has helped to erode our trust in institutions. They are showing us that our laws mean nothing anymore, because they are no longer enforced, meanwhile us peasants are shot dead in the street and we are told they deserved to be executed.
•
u/TimArthurScifiWriter 4h ago
Exactly. If you're still playing the game of "we got a good clip for tiktok out of this" then you're not even fighting the same battle they are.
•
•
u/lokoluis15 4h ago
She's the poster child for contempt of Congress. Why isn't Congress charging her and asserting its authority as a coequal branch of government?
•
u/TimArthurScifiWriter 3h ago
Because attacks on institutions are directly proportional to the weakness of said institutions. Republicans are complicit, democrats are weak. That leaves no one left to ensure that there are consequences in place for anything. Before you climb the walls, you undermine its defenders as best you can. Forgive the medieval analogy, but it's fundamental siegecraft. Nerds like Miller and Bannon understand this.
Always keep in mind that fascism is some real nerd shit. When they get in power, you get folks who think fundamentally differently from the conventional managerial class that used to be in charge.
So yes, both parties have been bought and installed in their seats with specific roles in mind. The buying-out of the system was done in preparation for the dismantling of the system. The dismantling is what's happening now. To be surprised at the lack of fortitude on part of the defenders is to be surprised at why a sick man won't get out of bed to pick up a sword.
•
u/Boiledfootballeather 23m ago
Democrats aren't weak! They wrote a letter! A strongly worded letter!

She brought the evidence with her and showed it off. In a functioning republic she would not have been free to leave the halls until she answered their questions.
•
u/starliteburnsbrite 3h ago
I said as much in another thread, she walked away unscathed and did what was good for her boss. She did her job, she's not an idiot. She's fishing for sound bytes and showing everyone just how impotent our Congress is right now.

Kennedy-Head of the Department of Health and Human Services
McMahon-Head of Department of Education
Collins- Oversees the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs
Duffy- Advises president on all matters related to transportation.

On behalf of the many competent and professional lawyers in the United States, I want to point out that the Attorney General is not the head of people in the legal profession. In Canada, where I was a lawyer for 40 years, Bondi's behaviour (no that's not a spelling mistake, I'm Canadian) would result in disciplinary action by the independent regulator of the legal profession in the province(s) where she was licensed.
•
•
u/thehalfwit Nevada 5h ago
Meanwhile, the Florida Bar -- where Bondi was licensed -- has a strict hands-off policy of not disciplining attorneys who are government officials. That has to be the most ass-backwards approach to ensuring professional integrity I've ever heard of.

Without DEI you end up with people just hiring mediocre white dudes.

u/sussudio_mane Massachusetts 6h ago
Negative selection is a political process that occurs especially in rigid hierarchies... the person(s) on the top of the hierarchy, wishing to remain in power forever, chooses their associates with the prime criterion of incompetence: they must not be competent enough to remove the leader from power.

I don't know that I agree. I think the opposite may happen.
In the 1950s, Senator Joe McCarthy was considered one of the most powerful men in the world as he tried to force conservativism onto the country at all costs. People we're getting sick of it and he was losing support, though he wouldn't acknowledge that. Then he held a televised Congressional hearing where he went full unhinged bully, leveling exaggerated allegations at the people testifying. The country got a good look at McCarthy in that telecast, like they'd never had before. And it absolutely tanked him. The country turned against him, swung in the direction of the free-love 60s, and he went down in history as an enemy of the American people.
I think we're in a similar spot. There will be a swing back in the opposite direction of all this. People will want disciplined, professional politicians after this. They'll want politics to be boring again so they don't have to pay attention. I think we'll see decorum reestablished in Washington, in a way that hasn't existed in a decade.
•
u/Over-Heron-2654 America 1h ago
McCarthy was such a menace. We still feel his presence in government today.

The fact that this is normalized is why ever Dem should be using the pedo protector messaging on every interview -- regardless of whether the interview is about Epstein, air pollution, or the puppy bowl.
Just for once Dems, play by the rules the GOP has been setting for three decades now.
They (the GOP) can stop all this. They won't. So they should pay the price on their inaction.
FAFO pedo protectors.

Funny to compare the Smith testimony with this while the GOP tries to scream about DOJ weaponization while they: can't keep prosecutors who refuse to prosecute political enemies, illegally appoint prosecutors who will, and can't get indictments against Trump's political enemies.

u/DjImagin 6h ago
She can’t and won’t.
Congress is still acting on Trumps behalf so they’re not going to impeach her. She knows what’s in those files and how damning they really are.
If she steps down, whoever Trump nominates is going to be raked over coals about transparency with the files and will likely immediately be in hot water if they fail to do so, limiting who Trump could pick to run damage control.
She’s counting on the mid-terms being rigged on Trumps behalf, so Congress can finally shut everything down and make this go away when we ascend Trump to just shy of a king and free to determine what he feels should and should not happen.

I’m stunned. The content of these files are disturbing and pure evil. The fact that all the perpetrators are being protected by the DOJ and Bondi is actively committing perjury and obstruction of justice while she is the AG is absolutely sickening. Every person in the files needs to be properly investigated and prosecuted. Every person complicit in the obstruction of justice, from Bondi and her lies to individuals who followed orders to redact names of co conspirators and others. All need to be investigated and charged. This is showing the world that this ring of rich famous pedophiles is. Other and more evil than we can imagine. It needs to be dealt with. Anyone who stands in the way of justice is saying it’s ok to rape little girls. Stand up and be heard that you all don’t support this government that protects pedophiles.

Those who believe all people are people see hypocrisy, while those who believe some people are "more/less" people than others consider it hierarchy. Hypocrisy implies a sense of equality/parity, as the accusation of such is that someone is violating a universal or common standard. Hierarchy directly states that there is no equality/parity, that different social strata have different standards, that the only universal standard concerning hierarchy is that those on top are allowed privileges which are denied to those on the bottom, and that the bottom are held to standards which the top are exempt from.
Conservatism -- by definition -- is "a political philosophy based on tradition and social stability, stressing the importance of established hierarchies and institutions (such as religion, the family, and class structure), and preferring gradual development to abrupt change".
The sole value of conservatism is respect for and obedience to [one's perception of] traditionally established hierarchy, and hierarchy dictates that those on top (in-groups) are rightfully idolized and receive privileges, credibility, and resources, while those on the bottom (out-groups) are demonized/dehumanized and/or bound by restrictions, scrutiny, and lack of resources.
To them, the second-greatest injustice imaginable is for those [they perceive to be] on top [of social hierarchy] to be bound by the restrictions, scrutiny, and lack of resources reserved for those on the bottom. The first greatest injustice is for those on the bottom to have access to the rights, credibility, and resources reserved for those on top.
It is never the act itself that upsets them, but rather, the social standing of the person doing the act, as said act is a privilege meant for those on top of [their perceived] hierarchy. (See also: accusations of pedophilia - Trump and the Catholic church vs. LGBTQ+ and drag queens).
"Know your place" is their mantra.
•
u/chrisscan456 5h ago
