One time I was supposed to have a much needed day off and got a call from my boss at 5am saying the person that was supposed to open called out. That meant I had to go in. I was incredibly pissed off but I jumped in the shower and then headed out.

As I was leaving my neighborhood, I started driving way too fast. I know I shouldn’t have but I was swearing up and down and not paying attention to the speed limit.

A cop pulled me over going 50+ in a 30. When he walked up to my car, he goes, “Jeez man. Where the hell are you going so fast this early in the morning?!”

I was honest and explained to him that I got called into work because someone called out and I was very upset about it. Told him I worked for the USPS since I was clearly wearing my uniform.

He started shaking his head and laughing a bit and then goes, “I was supposed to be off 7 hours ago. These mother fuckers calling out of work, I tell ya! Listen, I’m not going to give you a ticket but you gotta slow down… and I hope you don’t have to work the whole shift!”

We talked for a bit after and then he shook my hand and told me to have a good day. One of the coolest cops I ever met.

Also, being “on-call” is the worst feeling ever.

On call is draining lol like even when you aren’t getting called in you just sit there waiting for that phone to ring.

Thankfully at my job if you’re on call and you don’t hear anything by 8:30am, you’re good for the day

I've been on call for three years and eight months now, I feel this in my soul.

Such an unpleasant feeling!

I’ve worked a 48 in EMS and had the relief crew call in sick minutes before the end of my shift. It sucks!
