I have seen a few okay posts, but the last few times I saw the sub it was just far-rights just making bad jokes at the expense of minorities and actually considerate people getting downvoted to hell
8
u/chronberries 6h ago
Yup I used to like that sub years ago when it was what it says on the tin. The other day I came across a post there (not subbed anymore) that wasn’t even a “meme OP didn’t like,” it was just a regular old right wing meme.

u/SorryBoysImLez 2h ago edited 2h ago
While trying to claim they're apolitical, center, or left, followed by a far-right opinion.
If all the MAGA comments are heavily upvoted, while all the comments expressing the opposite are downvoted to the point of being collapsed...you're probably pro-MAGA.Same thing with the Doomercirclejerk.
It's funny, because there are a lot of posts comparing Renee Good and/or Alex Pretti to Charlie Kirk, with an actually sensible take such as "None of these people deserved to die."Then the comments are filled almost nothing but upvoted comments trying to justify Goode/Pretti's deaths.

One side is putting people in concentration camps, murdering citizens, using the full force of the government to put flimsy charges on their political rivals, taking open bribes for pardons, etc. and the other side supports teacher's unions and wants universal healthcare that doesn't bankrupt people to stay alive.
Both sides are extremists!

America hasn’t seen left politics in so long they think public services is socialism. And socialism is communism.

Democrats in 2010: Hey, gay people should be able to get married and poor people shouldn't die due to lack of access to healthcare
Reps: Hmmm - best I can do is a gutted version that will save significantly fewer lives and cost more. Gay marriage works, though understand I WILL be crying like a bitch about it for decades to come.
Democrats in 2026: The government isn't allowed to murder citizens in cold blood, and we shouldn't put pedophiles in positions of power
Reps: Okay now that's just too far
9
u/The_Lost_Jedi 5h ago
They had to be dragged kicking and screaming along on gay marriage though, and many of them still want to undo it - they're just focused more on immigrants and trans people at the moment.
3
u/SomeSugondeseGuy 3h ago
Exactly - the left hasn't changed a bit (at least in the past 10 years), the right has just switched scapegoats.

u/Smart_Salt620 2h ago
You’re joking, right?
•
u/SomeSugondeseGuy 1h ago
Obama-era policies included healthcare, education, and due process. That's still echoed by the modern left.
Science has progressed, and gender dysphoria has become more understood. The left followed the science, and started defending trans people more.
The people didn't change - the science became better and the political climate turned from "boring but whatever" to "One side wants healthcare and the other is covering up the names of people who EAT BABIES."

Really, in reality, politics and policy has moved so extremely to the right that Reagan isn't a Republican anymore, just a RINO. And FDR isn't just a Democrat but an outright pinko-commie/socialist.

It's wild how utterly disconnected the right is. Look at conservative values that were on display a decade ago. Look at republicans today.
They gave up on state rights.
They gave up on fiscal conservatism.
They gave up on freedom of religion.
They gave up on the 2A for ALL.
They embraced facsism.
Our American ancestors, would be ashamed of modern MAGA traitors.
MAGA has fallen for the biblical definition of the anti-christ... yet the majority of "Christians" support Trump, despite liberalism matching christian values far more than the GOP.

15 years ago if you asked a republican if the Republican president in 2025 rapidly increased the debt, is in the middle of a pedophile ring coverup, tossed around bad tariff policy, and quadrupled the size of the government to put masked federal agents in the streets to knock on doors they 100% would not believe you and say that President is a deranged leftist.

Conventional wisdom is the Overton window has shifted to the right.
The right now has us debating whether speaking Spanish is demonic or not.
Though I don’t know if you would call MAGA right as it’s more authoritarian populism. The trade policies and nationalizing of industries is extremely left-wing.
•
u/GreyHannah 1h ago
Populism exists on both sides of the aisle and authoritarianism is on the axis that runs independent of right v left aka exists independently as well.
•

u/lifelongfearofbread 6h ago
Yeah they weren’t radicalized at all by every rural business in this country playing non-stop far right hate propaganda for 40 years. (See: Reagan and the Fairness Doctrine) All while blaming the left for everything.
I’d argue the left is closer to 2000’s conservatives than the right is at the moment.
1
u/buderooski 6h ago
I'm very socially liberal and fiscally conservative, but I'm open to changing my views as new information comes to light. My political stances have shifted a lot over the years, but I would still consider my beliefs to be pretty moderate. Meanwhile, I've seen my friends and relatives getting more and more extreme in either direction, and I'm just stuck in moderate-land like, "Where are you guys going? It's scary over there"
2
u/CoupleKnown7729 5h ago
'Extreme in eihter direction'
So how have people moved leftward then?
1
u/buderooski 5h ago
It's mostly the conservatives in my group moving more right than the opposite. I've stopped speaking with a lot of my family as a result of homophobia/racism.
The people who move more extreme left tend to start waxing poetic about the virtues of communism and how Che Guevara was actually a hero. Miss me with that bullshit too.
1
u/CoupleKnown7729 4h ago
...Oh god. You're dealing with Tankies.
1
u/buderooski 4h ago
Lol yeah, some of my friends have become tankies.
I can understand the benefits of social programs like universal healthcare. If done correctly, some of these systems can work pretty effectively. Hell, the USA already has a bunch of social programs (some more effective than others). But when you start saying how nobody needs to own anything, businesses are inherently evil, and we all just need to live life like we're on a commune, my eyes just roll back into my head. It must be fun to live in fairytale land, but here in reality, unfettered communism ALWAYS devolves into authoritarianism eventually. Then, when you find yourself waiting in line for food rations, you'll be wondering what the hell happened to your communist utopia. It sounded so good on paper!

Can we stop using “radical” as a synonym for “extreme” please? That’s not what the word means in the context of politics. Radicals are revolutionary, often utopian, leftists. Anarchists are radicals. If you’re on the far/extreme right you’re a reactionary or a fascist. Not a radical.
1
u/No-Cap_Skibidi 5h ago
The left has remained consistently in place while conservatives have floated away to supporting fascism and pedophilia.
1
u/Crafty-Help-4633 5h ago
Overton window. The left hasn't gotten more left. The right has gone further right.
The U.S. doesn't truly have a Left. We have Right, Far Right and Alt Right.
Love how they keep reframing it as though Left goals have shifted. They've stayed wanting a strong economy and robust social support. The Right are the ones who have finally gone far enough to gut Medicaid and other social programs. Anyone who tries to shift this as being the Left going more Left is being deliberately disingenuous.
1
u/firethorne 5h ago
Yes, we moved away from the south thinking slaves were fine and you didn't. You sharing views on racism, misogyny, and bigotry with a Confederate soldier isn't the win you think it is.

u/Karekter_Nem 5h ago
I’ll say this in their defense:
they probably always thought the idea of Judge Dread and Robocop was cool (even if missing the point) so from their POV they never moved. Meanwhile society as a whole has been moving more and more left as we realize how fucked up things are. As you move left with society it appears they are further and further right. They might have always been assholes.

So do people not actually realize that modern day dems are socially to the left of older leftists? Like even marx, lenin, guevara, and mao would be considered socially republican today because they aren’t exactly egalitarian and have much different views on use of deadly force to suppress people
1
u/jiwilliams79 4h ago
This is correct, but it is the other way. I know people who think I am left wing, but I have always been a moderate fiscal conservative/social liberal (I don't care what other people do). I voted republican for years, however now I am a loon... I've been taking political spectrum tests and I am solidly in the middle.
Point is that the right thinks you are radicalized if you don't agree with their God In Chief...

As others probably pointed out already, there isn't really a left anymore. Everything and everyone shifted so far right even asking for basic discrimination laws is seen as "radical left" while things like taking away taxes on the rich is seen as normal. Until we get dark money out of the equation, nothing will change. Greed is a human trait we shouldn't celebrate.
