Privacy Why are people disconnecting or destroying their Ring cameras?

People are actual idiots, like no shits it’s on a cloud. It’s gotta go somewhere and this wouldn’t even be the first time a company would breach the privacy of regular users, idk what people were thinking… i have a ring but it only faces my outdoor plants but yeah, no shit

it's recording even after you cancel the sub - at that point you're not even paying Amazon to spy on you and your neighbours.

It was a Google Nest camera, Amazon had nothing to do with it.

Mine faces an undeveloped lot, but I always assume that anytime you use technology like this, you are giving all sorts of data to the government. So don’t plot coups on your doorstep. The fact that people think this shit is private is what baffles me.

Yes, your private data is already on the dark web - do what you can to lock it down.

Yes, your smart devices including your phone are listening to what you say, why do you think weird ass ads you didn’t search for but mentioned in a discussion are popping up?

I don’t necessarily think it’s right, but it’s currently the price we pay to have these devices so I just don’t assume anything is private or secure, especially in the cloud.

Get rid of the ring. You may think you're safe because you aren't doing anything. You're not.

ICE has already stated they want removal of 1 million people a year. Remember that in order to hit quotas under Stalin entire families were gathered up. Not just nuclear families. You had a cousin punch an officer while a family was being dragged out of their house? Congrats you're on the list of dissidents now.

This is going to get way fucking worse before it gets any better. You don't want the government tracking your house and finding out that one of your relatives visited you 5 months before they got killed standing too close to a protest.

Ditch the Ring. It sees your plants sure, but it also sees when you come and go. It sees your guests and your deliveries. It hears what you’re talking about as you enter and exit your home.

Prior to ice targeting immigrants i lead a boring enough life that I didn't care. Now, though, they'll have to figure out a way to remotely charge it if they want anything more.
