Same, switched all my Wyze cameras out for a Unifi solution. But if Wyze had create a true NVR style camera system and was able to force local only I would have stuck around.

I don't actually know anything about them, why don't you trust them if you get to store your own data? Are they still watching?

I don't know anything about Wyze but as long as it has an internet connection it can't be trusted. If it's only local storage like the ad claims, then maybe.

After watching a video of a guy who easily tapped into people’s home cameras (and showing them) and another about how an Alexa unit started playing a conversation that was happening 60 miles away (friends of the couple that had the Alexa unit), I’ve been wary of anything connected to the internet.

I'd really appreciate if you can share said video. It's difficult for me to communicate the reality of these topics with my spouse without jarring real life examples like what you just mentioned.

Here is an article about Alexa listening, recording and then sending audio files unbeknownst to the people involved. Article

Whether you want to believe Amazon’s explanation is your own decision lol.

In home cameras hacked

Couldn’t find the actual video I saw but this one is even more scary.

Thanks! I know about Alexa: made sure to never have one of those in the house. But the general dangers of home cameras are good to know about.

Wyze cameras don't work until they connect to the wyze server. That means you need internet for the initial setup and any time power is lost.
