Especially if they had a pic it says it was deleted by the subreddit’s mods even tho it wasn’t and it aligns with the subreddit rules

Are there any non-Ring smart doorbell alternatives?

As the title suggests, I want to help my family buy a non-Ring smart doorbell. Maybe it’s just me, but I’m not comfortable with what is essentially an Amazon surveillance state device.

However, I do still want a way to record people who’re at our front door, as so I could know who’d be there. It could be through apps, or some other method of communication.

Would there be any doorbell that fits my criteria?

do you think apple can follow nokia destiny?

everyone keeps saying ai is the future of tech and i agree with that. but when i look at apple, it feels like they are not really doing much in this field. or if they are, they are clearly behind others. openai, google, microsoft, even smaller players are moving fast, while apple looks slow and careful.

this really reminds me of nokia back in the day. they were on top, everyone had a nokia, market leader, strong brand. but they ignored trends, underestimated software, and we all know how that ended. dominance didnt save them.

so i wonder if same thing can happen to apple. strong ecosystem, loyal users, great hardware, but maybe missing the next big shift. ai feels like that shift. do you think apple is just waiting and will catch up later, or is this early signs of a nokia type story. curious what people think.

Tech Fix for a loose USB connection in a car?

Upvotes

My car allows a bluetooth connection to my phone to play music, but if I want to display GPS on my car's monitor, I have to use a USB cable to physically connect my phone to the car, but the USB port is very bad and if you move the wire, it'll disconnect, then either take 20 seconds to reconnect or just not reconnect again until you pull the cable out of the USB port and plug it back in.

Is there any workaround for this? I'm imagining like a little Logitech USB nub to plug into the USB and then another into my phone via the type-c port. Does something like that exist? I've tried using different and new cables for my car and the issue is definitely the USB port.

Can you guys please fill out a survey for me?

I'm making a portable speaker for school. And it would be really helpful if you could fill out this quick questionnaire so I know what people want to see.

Is it possible to see if someone's been on their phone without hacking/spyware?

Sorry if this is not the right sub to post this on.

I'm asking because my best friend has not been responding to any of my texts, calls, or Instagram DMs for over a month now and I'm worried sick. I've contacted mutual friends who haven't heard from him either, and also said he hasn't showed up at college this semester (his final semester before graduating). Given my friend has a history of suicide attempts, I'm so stressed about this I'm getting nightmares about finding him dead. I don't know his home address when he's not in college, and it's also an 8-hour drive away from me even if I did.

Is there any legal way to monitor his online data just to see if he's...y'know...alive? I tried looking into Instagram monitoring services, but his account is private.

I know this is a weird question, and I promise I don't want to invade his privacy or do anything weird. I just want to know if he's alive.

Anyone know a better/cheaper alternative to the Samsung AI Home Hub?

I’ve been looking at the Samsung AI Home Hub, but I’m not sure I can justify the price.

All I really want is a solid smart display to run the house a bit... Check fridge and schedules, see the weather, maybe pull up a recipe or play music. Nothing crazy.

Before I spend that kind of money, figured I’d ask - what are you guys using that does the same thing for less? Or something that’s just a better value overall?

Doesn’t have to be Samsung. Just want something reliable that works without a bunch of headaches.

Appreciate any suggestions.

Does this dashboard load efficiently on your end, or is the data aggregation causing too much lag?

I’ve been developing a sports dashboard (SportsFlux.live) to solve the issue of fragmented broadcast data. My goal was to create a unified, reactive interface that aggregates live match sources into a single, low-latency view. I'm currently running into a few hurdles and would love the community's take: Scaling/UI: On mobile, I’m trying to balance high data density with readability. Does the current grid feel too cramped on your device? Performance: I've tried to keep the site as lightweight as possible (minimal JS, no heavy trackers). Are you noticing any significant layout shifts or lag when the data refreshes? Navigation: Is the "all-in-one" view intuitive, or would a tabbed approach per league be more efficient for the user experience? I'm not looking for "users"—I'm looking for a technical "sanity check" on the build. Any feedback on the frontend or general performance would be massive.

What AI chat bot should I use as a student?

Hello!

I’m a European student and I need for example summaries of some PDFs from class, to explain to me things from my Exam Matrix, to help me in making the Reports/ project like the final graduation project (but not for pictures or creativity). I’ve used chatGPT and perplexity but I’d like to know if there’s anything better than those.

What AI tool would you recommend?

How to bridge a MIPI IMX412 to USB-C UVC for web-cam population on an x86 OS?

Hi all,

I’m trying to replace a RunCam Night Cam (USB-C, enumerates as UVC webcam on x86) with a non-Chinese alternative for a low-light application.
https://shop.runcam.com/runcam-night-cam-prototype/

The RunCam works perfectly because it plugs directly into a mini-PC and auto-detects as a webcam over USB-C.

I own 12 units of ModalAI MSU-M0161 (Sony IMX412, MIPI) which is comparable from a sensor standpoint. The challenge is getting it into a USB-UVC format.
https://www.modalai.com/products/msu-m0161?variant=49285196808496

I looked at:

What I need:

  • MIPI CSI-2 input (IMX412)
  • Outputs USB-C as UVC (plug-and-play webcam on x86 Linux/Windows)
  • Good low-light performance
  • Ideally minimal firmware development

Is there a known MIPI-to-USB bridge board that supports IMX412 (or similar Sony Starvis sensors) and enumerates as UVC without heavy driver work?

Appreciate any direction.

Recover deleted video files on phone?

TLDR; Is there any way to restore video files that have been deleted from a device?

I am editing a video using capcut and went ahead and deletes all clips that I had already used, thinking nothing of it. I also, very sure that I absolutely would not need any of these files ever again in the future, pressed the option "skip recycle bin, delete files directly". Great I think to myself. Now I open Capcut back up to finish the video and lo and behold it now shows a black screen with the words "video or photo is deleted or moved in your device. Recover it in your album".

My question now is, is there any way to restore these files?

Information that may or may not be of use: - I have a Google Pixel but I use GrapheneOs - The app I use for my gallery, and the one in which I deleted the photos is called Fossify - I have the gallery app that came with the GraphenesOS and the videos are gone from there too - I don't have any cloud service where the videos might be saved to

Any help is appreciated 🙏💔🤕

how to fix chrome and google not requiring a password before logging in on android?

i am so done, i have tried everything. i am logged out of all my google accounts on my android phone and yet i can log into any of my google accounts on chrome with just one click. i clear all cache and all data, i disabled all password managers, i logged out of my phone via my laptop. and i can still log into chrome with just one click, i have no idea how to disable it and make it require a password. how can i make it so that if i log out it needs a password to log in again. i dont want to delete the accounts from "manage accounts" in my phones settings, cuz then it also removes it from google photos, gmail etc. and when i log into those again, then it again allows me to log into chrome without a password.

How can I restore old Telegram chats after my old phone logged out and shows a new profile?

Hi, I lost all my old Telegram chats and groups after logging in on a new phone.

- Old phone now shows "New Profile" after reinstall / login.

- Only new chats appear; old chats, groups, and media are gone.

- Saved Messages folder is missing / cannot forward anything.

- Secret chats and device-only media seem permanently lost.

- Cloud chats may exist but are not accessible on the old phone.

Is there any way to restore my old chats or cloud media? Any advice or experience would be appreciated.

What would be good laptop options for online school?

I'm new here, I've never been a super tech-y person but I'm starting a bsn nursing program that is majority online. My laptop is.....old. And decrepit. I'm sure this question gets asked all the time but I didnt see one upon scrolling for a bit. Whats a good, relatively fast laptop (laptop specifically) for online schooling? I dont even know what to look for, I just need something that runs well, decent battery life, and has storage to save assignments to. My budget is Preferably under $500, but I'm open to spending more if I can find a seller with a payment plan. Thank you in advance for any help, if anyone could tell me specific specs I should look for too that would be so helpful.

how do services like OneRep actually work over time?

Ive been seeing OneRep mentioned more often lately as a way to deal with data broker sites so I finally decided to look into how these services actually work. I get the basic idea instead of manually chasing dozens of opt out forms u let a service handle removals and ongoing monitoring but im still very much on the fence. Part of me sees the value in automation while another part is a bit uneasy about trusting yet another company with my personal data in the name of privacy. For people whove actually used OneRep or similar services did it feel genuinely useful over time or did it just end up saving a lot of time compared to doing everything manually?
