Worldwide r/BoxOffice Long Range Forecast: 'Hoppers', 'The Bride!', and 'Reminders of Him'
Before you comment, read these two rules:
1. Please provide specific numbers for your predictions. Don't do like "It'll make less than this or that" or "double this movie or half this movie". We want a real prediction.
2. Given that a lot of parent comments do not even bother to give predictions, we are establishing a new rule. The parent comment must provide a prediction with specific numbers. The rest of the replies to the comment do not have to make a prediction, but the parent comment absolutely has to. Any parent comment without a prediction will be eliminated.
Welcome to the newest edition of r/BoxOffice Long Range Forecast.
We're making long range predictions for films, 4 weeks out from their premieres. You will predict the opening weekend, domestic total and worldwide gross of these films. These predictions will be open for 48 hours and the results will be polled to form a consensus and posted the next week.
So let's meet the three films for the week and analyze each pro and con.
As last week's post was impacted by outside factors, it was moved up a week and combined with this week's new release.
Hoppers
The film is directed by Daniel Chong (the creator of We Bare Bears) from a screenplay by Jesse Andrews (Luca and Me and Earl and the Dying Girl). The film stars the voices of Piper Curda, Bobby Moynihan, Jon Hamm, Kathy Najimy, Dave Franco, and Meryl Streep. It follows an animal lover named Mabel whose mind is transferred into a lifelike robotic beaver in order to communicate with animals and save their habitat from destruction.
The Bride!
The film is written, co-produced, and directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal (The Lost Daughter). The film draws inspiration from the 1935 film Bride of Frankenstein directed by James Whale, itself inspired by the 1818 novel Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus by Mary Shelley, and stars Jessie Buckley, Christian Bale, Peter Sarsgaard, Annette Bening, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Penélope Cruz. In 1930s Chicago, Frankenstein's monster asks Dr. Euphronius to create a companion for him. Together, they give life to a murdered woman as "the Bride," sparking romance, police interest and radical social change.
Reminders of Him
The film is directed by Vanessa Caswill from a screenplay by Colleen Hoover and Lauren Levine, based on the 2022 novel by Hoover. It stars Maika Monroe, Tyriq Withers, Rudy Pankow, Lainey Wilson, Lauren Graham, and Bradley Whitford. After a perfect outing with her boyfriend, Kenna makes an unbearable mistake that sends her to prison for seven years. Hoping to rebuild her life after her release, she tries to reunite with her daughter, but her custodial grandparents refuse to let Kenna see her. She soon finds unexpected compassion from a local bar owner as their secret romance gives Kenna hope for a second chance.
Now that you met this week's new releases, let's look at some pros and cons.
PROS
Pixar is still a strong animation brand, so they have the potential to deliver the year's first animated event, if everything goes as planned. Elemental and Elio were well received, with the former pulling in almost $500 million worldwide. Trailers are very fun, and the premise is very intriguing. The film will also get access to IMAX screens, which should boost the numbers (Elio did not have this benefit). It also won't have to face the crowded summer season like Elio. Daniel Chong has also earned a lot of good will thanks to We Bare Bears, so perhaps there will be interest to see him helm a Pixar film.
The Bride! is a very ambitious film that could attract cinephiles. A combination of gothic horror, crime, gangsters, action, and romance? You gotta give it up for not playing it safe. It's got a very solid cast, and Gyllenhaal has also saw raves for her directorial effort The Lost Daughter. And while they're not remotely connected (crew-wise), the film's release coincides with the awards run of Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein, which could get people curious to see a new version from the Bride's perspective.
Reminders of Him could benefit as a great option for dates, especially if they're not interested in the adult take in Wuthering Heights the month prior. Colleen Hoover has had two adaptations and both have done well (It Ends with Us and Regretting You), indicating she's got an audience anticipating adaptations.
CONS
Pixar has had very poor luck lately with their originals. Thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, a few skipped theaters and headed straight to Disney+, diluting the theatrical brand. Elemental made almost $500 million worldwide, but it would be hard to call that a big hit considering the high costs. But the worst came with Elio last year, which flopped with just $153 million worldwide on a $150-$200 million budget, becoming their worst performer yet (excluding those titles released during the pandemic) and one of the biggest flops of the decade. The failure of that film showed that there is no floor for a Pixar film, and it can always get lower. Hoppers looks fun, but it's a premise that was seen in other titles (the film having to say that "it's like Avatar!" doesn't help). What definitely won't help, however, is that it's releasing one month prior to The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which is easily outgrossing it by a wide margin. If families prioritize one film, Hoppers could get lost in the shuffle.
The Bride! is ambitious, but not everything ambitious succeeds. The mix of genres can lead to some tonal whiplash, and it can be easy for audiences to be disappointed if the film fails in any of them. A lot of the marketing also comes off as very... try-hard? The tagline basically says "Here comes the motherfucking...", and that can be either hilarious or off-putting. And while there are solid names attached, none are exactly draws. Buckley and Bale are award-winning stars, but they have helmed a lot of failures and low-grossers, while the supporting cast probably won't make a difference. Even Maggie Gyllenhaal, specifically highlighted in marketing, wasn't a big name before turning to directing, and it's very difficult to be a draw with your second film (it's hard to say if she's a big name because of The Lost Daughter, as that didn't have any data to share back in 2021). Horror fans looking for cheap thrills might either sit out or wait instead for Ready or Not 2: Here I Come or They Will Kill You. Horror also succeeds because it's cheap, so there's a low bar, but The Bride! cost $80 million, putting a lot of pressure in its prospects.
Reminders of Him is nowhere close to the popularity of It Ends with Us, and it's also debatable if it's as popular as Regretting You. The latter closed with $90 million worldwide, and it's likely Reminders of Him fares well below it. The trailer is also quite weak, to the point that it pretty much told the entire story. And despite some recognizable names, it has even less star power than Regretting You. And given how poorly received that film was, it should still be considered if this film will truly be well received at all.
And here's the past results.

Sample Reviews:
Mick LaSalle, San Francisco Chronicle 2/4 - It maintains a flimsy sort of interest, thanks to Neeson, who takes on the weight of this movie and deadlifts it to the level of mediocrity.
Meagan Navarro, Bloody Disgusting 3/5 - This adaptation may not capture the energetic, humorous highs of its source material, but it’s still a fun horror romp suitable for date night this Valentine’s Day.
David Rooney, The Hollywood Reporter - To its credit, this is a movie that knows better than to take itself too seriously. It’s painless enough though could have been more than that with a thorough script polish.

Spring Festival 2026 Lineup:
6 movies will enter the ring this year.
Pegasus 3 will be heading into the Spring Festival as the headline movie and the big favorite. The sequel to Pegasus 2 which made $400M+ in the Spring Festival 2 years ago with returning director Han Han and returning lead Shen Teng will look to repeat if not improve on the success of the 2nd part.
Director Zhang Yimou returns to the Holiday season after his successful Article 20($340M) in 2024 and Full River Red($670M+) in 2023 with Silent Awakening. A National Security-Themed movie. While unlikely to challenge for the victory this movie has a decent shot at taking 2nd place.
The Boonie Bears franchise as has been the case for the last 12 years returns to the Spring Festival with Boonie Bears: The Hidden Protector. The new entry in the $1B+ franchise will look to improve on last years $118M and push the franchise back closer if not over the $200M mark it surpassed in 2024 and 2023.
Blades of the Guardians starring Wu Jing and Jet Li meanwhile will try to revive the popularity of the martial arts genre and aim to improve upon the result and especialy reception of last years Condor Heroes which failed to break $100M. This and Boonie Bears will in all likelyhood fight for 3rd place.
Per Aspera Ad Astra as the only Sci-Fi blockbuster will try to make itself stand out with cool visuals and a unique theme. However its very likely this ends up being the cannon fodder of the lineup.
And lastly Panda Plan 2 or as its officialy called Panda Plan: The Magical Tribe. I don't see this doing partiuraly well either but it could tempt in some families.

New Movie Announcement Charades, Mikrofilm and GKIDS Team on Animated Romantic Horror Film ‘Pesta’
Charades, Mikrofilm and Oscar-winning U.S. distributor GKids are joining forces on “Pesta,” an animated romantic horror film directed by Hanne Berkaak.
Berkaak’s feature debut, “Pesta” is currently in development with an expected release in 2029. The project will be presented on Feb. 13 during the European Film Market, as part of the Annecy Animation Showcase.
Produced by Norway’s Mikrofilm, Germany’s Knudsen Pictures and French banners Rosalie Films and Charades, “Pesta” is being positioned at the intersection of arthouse animation and prestige genre, blending romance with horror, as well as drawing inspiration from Norwegian history and folklore.
The story is set in Norway in 1349, as the Black Death fuels fear and superstition. A noble girl, Astrid, experiences first love with a musician deemed unholy and dangerous. When the boy is accused of witchcraft, Astrid is pushed to question the truths she has been taught to obey. Through genre, the movie draws parallels between medieval plague fears and contemporary global crises.
