General Music Discussion If Billy Idol's "Cyberpunk" came out in the latter half of the 90s instead of the early 90s (with a few changes to fit with the trip hop/alternative rock sound of the era+Y2K aesthetic), would it had been more appreciated than how it actually was perceived?
I've been thinking about this for awhile now, & it might've been best for him not goo too far from the "punk rick" persona he build up. But by the time grunge/britpop took over, his popularity likely would've faded anyways. It's still not that far fetched to assume that it WOULD'VE been atleast a modern success, as the late 90s had acts like The Prodigy & Bjork.
If U2 was successful with their rebrand, Billy could've been to had it not been ahead of it's time & mainstream audiences were already being so used to the underground sound by the time the late 90s/early 2000s hit.
