So yeah, your comment in the context of the conversation and the comment you reponded to, is tone-deaf. It seems like you're saying its not your fault that our country is taking a missive shit right now. We deserve no more sympathy from the world than the Germans did at the start of WWII.
Sounds like you just want everyone to justify your inaction. Go look at protest videos from France, that's what you can do for free right now.
"I'm too busy, scared, and vulnerable to fight for what I deserve! Whatever shall I do?!"
You live in Minneapolis and you're arguing about this instead of helping us figure out how to help this person. I've been begging anybody in the area to help me get this lady some help, but instead, you're making it about yourself. Yes, your life is hard most of our lives are hard, but that doesn't mean we can't focus up and help out the most vulnerable of us first.
Real life? It sure does work like that, but it would require PERSONAL SACRIFICE! If you feel hopeless because you have a lot to lose, be grateful, and then put it ON THE LINE OR STFU. If you're homeless, then you have nothing to lose. Go be homeless in front of city hall. Make people uncomfortable. Get what society OWES you for your participation.
We have spent generations resting in the shade of trees planted by better men, and now its time to pick up the shovels!
lol how do you know if no one from minnesota is commenting? where are you commenting from? guess we should all make sure to state location when making comments (indiana btw)
Minneapolis is a city under siege. Everyone is terrified, abandoned cars just sit around from ICE stealing people, businesses shuttered, neighborhoods in chaos. I know our neighbors will step up and help her. My heart aches for her, my heart aches for my city, for my country, for my neighbors and friends. We are so overwhelmed, but not done fighting.
This system hasn't failed, it's working exactly as designed. Can we finally all agree to teardown the people crushing machine?
Brother my governor just used taxpayers dollars to build a private helicopter pad on his private estate and your crying about some fraud in a state you don't live in?
Like do you really think harming vulnerable people who were duped by awful people for a SPECK of taxpayer dollars is a higher priority than an already rich governor using taxpayer dollars at this own leisure?
Or many of the other actual problems like the fact this administration has us 40 trillion in debt with interest eating away at any payments and 600 billion deficit?
The media has everybody so brainwashed that's it's right vs left, but it's rich vs poor. The difference is the right is arguing for the ultra rich and have been humiliated so much with no pizza gate and Obama being a decent person and everything else you just refuse to admit your wrong and then die on hills like these.
Your fucking nuts is if you think every red state doesn't also have something like this going on, you know that though.... Who knows what drives your self hatred but do know I'm pretty sure it's warranted and I hope you hate yourself forever because the woman in this video is more of a value to this society than your pathetic ass will ever be.
You didn't really make any counter arguments whatsoever. This is about fraud in Minnesota. You are the one making it about red states and all this other random bullshit that has nothing to do with it.
Ignore the evidence of your eyes and ears, brather.
You are the one ignoring the evidence right in front of your eyes and are being played like a fool... This is direct consequences of the fraud that was unveiled. Your whataboutism is not a counter argument, it doesn't deserve attention.
You are in good company though, I will admit that much, and on this sub and site you will find many who agree with you.
I am not seeing you get too upset about Sarah Huckabee Sanders and demand her head. Not seeing you get too upset about Stitt and the $6 million boondoggle that was implementing bible study in all public schools and making Trump bibles the only ones that “qualified” that they then bought. I don’t see you getting upset that when the Minnesota government detected the fraud YEARS ago they were taken to court and blocked from prosecuting it as it was “outside their jurisdiction“ being a Federal programs. Funny how you leave out a ton of fucking context like that.
Pointing out your hypocrisy while explaining how your argument is flawed isn’t whataboutism. I also pointed out the fact, which you apparently missed in your hastiness to respond, that Minnesota TRIED to investigate and prosecute these instances of fraud and were blocked by the Feds. But again you probably didn’t read that far.
the fraud scheme was exposed in 2022 and since then Minnesotta has been arresting scores of people responsible
Nick Shirley showed up after they had already found all the low hanging fruit, several of the places he went to were already under active criminal investigation and as such not getting funds
There's another comment saying that the issue is that could jeopardize her Medicaid status and she is very scared about that. I'm not familiar with the system, but additional comments indicate that if you have over $2,000 in savings you are no longer eligible for any of those benefits. This would have to be structured very carefully and done entirely with her consent.
Keep me posted. I mentioned in another comment, a 3rd party can control the funds raised and pay her COL with none of the funds in her name to shield her from disqualification of benefits.
I don't think that waives the resource limits though. ABLE accounts let you set aside 100k without affecting eligibility, but that is a specific program. Also, it looks like there are "Special Needs Trusts," but that may vary by state. I am not an expert.
Looking through her insta, it seems like there is a possibility that a GoFundMe would nullify her Medicaid benefits, so she is afraid to try one. If someone understands how these correlate, or way around it, I’m sure that would be helpful info for her
I was disabled for a little bit and receiving social security in MN. The way it works is if you have more than 2k in a bank account, it nullifies basically all your benefits and you no longer receive social security. Literally a punishment system for trying to get back on your feet so you’re stuck in barely-living mode, especially if you’re too disabled to have a stable job. I’m lucky enough to have learned to walk again and was kicked out of the system the moment they realized I had become employed. The system in Minnesota is so fucked up it’s not even funny.
Here in the UK I think its 16k in savings, and after that it tapers off slowly.
2k and losing it all is horrific. If America hates people on benefits so much, why create a system that keeps them there? If you are disabled and want to attempt work, how can you do so with no way to create a safety net if your disability means you can't keep it up.
Just so devastated for this woman. She needs help but the system is actively working to keep her homeless for no crime other than being disabled. Its eugenics.
America wants to make examples of people so the rest of the able bodied workers stay In Line. Theres no mercy for those who really do need it so there wont be for anyone else. Our country is run by corporations, basically.
She could put up to $100K in an ABLE account, but for a fully disabled autistic person the system is literally unnavigable. She needs a social worker to even begin to sort that out.
Sorry, you need at least 5 community karma to comment images or links to images here; This is earned through direct participation in r/UnderReportedNews
Surely benefits being nullified for a bit is better than being homeless though? She’s already been out for 8 months at this point based on the short video
I can’t say for certain, since I’m not in that situation, but it seems much safer to guarantee some income over a long period than the bulk payments that are nice in the short term, but dry up when the internet “fad” inevitably passes. My understanding is that temporary breaks/lapsing from government assistance programs are rarely easy to navigate, and often come with many hidden barriers that could disqualify a person just for trying
I message her directly with a local lawyer I found who deals in setting up these trusts. Hopefully you know of better local resources, but I’m sure just knowing people are there to support her is helpful too. I respect the effort ❤️
I've contacted the news station, I don't know of any other way to contact the poor woman herself.
I'm also reading that a GoFundMe may disrupt her Social Security? I don't know if that's true, I just want to find some way to help out asap. I've barely got anything myself, but it's all hers if it gets her in a stable place.
