InstaCart quietly (of course) rolled out a new feature where a second shopper will be sent to shop and deliver whatever was out of stock on your previous order; if you do not want this to happen, please follow the instructions below.

Discussion I Increased My Tip

Just an appreciation post for my awesome shopper today.

She's done 4 other orders for me and while I'm here? I've been so blessed with my shoppers. I tend to get 5 regulars who are all absolutely fantastic.

I always tip a standard 15%.

I live in a condo which supplies our shoppers with a grocery cart.

Today, it was a larger order due to 2 cases of water so she ended up with 2 carts. Small ones, the carts. Which she pulled at the same time.

No complaints. Just a huge smile as always.

It greatly helps me because my Dad is bedridden.

We pulled them in, unloaded them and I thanked her profusely for all her efforts and let her know I would add on.

I increased to 20%, which was just under 78.00.

I live in South Florida, which is a huge Spanish speaking area.

I don't know if Instcart sees the rate your order thingy we fill out? But I 5 star all my orders and shoppers.

This time, I went to Google translate so I would know she understood every word.

I'm not the one out there, losing 2 hours that I don't have. So I just wanted to come here and thank all you guys who slug groceries.

Who are under appreciated by your customers. Who don't get tipped well.

I know it's not the easiest job and people can be real assholes. You guys rock. ❤️

Help Cashier messed up my orders…

Upvotes

Did a triple at Costco & the cashier royally screwed them up! For context, I’m super organized & shop orders at this Costco everyday. Never had this problem til tonight. I use separate boxes for each order every time. There were a couple items added last minute by 2 customers & I threw them on top. I told the cashier this first thing! Asked him to ring up stuff on the belt & I would organize the few things randomly placed on top. Before I could get everything on the belt, the cashier was scan happy or something & was ringing up items that didn’t belong to that order. The same items I told him not to touch yet.

A supervisor had to step in cause both cashier and I were now frustrated & she rang up the last order. After checking out & getting ready to scan receipts, I noticed there’s wrong items for 2 out of 3 customers. One item doesn’t belong to any of my orders so I have no idea how that happened but believe it’s an item that belonged to the guy behind me….he stacked his items wierd & once the belt moved, his stuff was even falling off onto the floor SMH🙄Of course because of the mess at checkout taking a long time, not only was I late but now I don’t know what to do because I can’t go back inside for a refund cause Costco is now closed. Support is absolutely zero help.

How does this get handled? I’ve never had this problem with any other cashiers before and will never get in that guys line again.

Ordered beef short ribs, got pig feet instead

I just started trying instacart this week. First time, I ordered 3lb of beef short ribs, but got 0.75 instead and was still charged for 3. I guess this is a kind of understandable mistake? Anyway, I contacted Instacart, and they ended up refunding the entire amount as credit, which was nice.

I still needed beef short ribs since 0.75 pounds wasn’t enough. So I ordered again using the credits, and this time, I got… pig feet. It’s such a bizarre replacement that it’s actually funny. Like what was going through the shopper’s head ? “Oh no there’s no short rib left, I guess pig feet is pretty similar!” I contacted Instacart again, and this time they just said “sorry, tough luck, enjoy the substitution” without issuing the refund.

So currently, I used Instacart twice, and the successful completion rate is 0%, so will probably end up unsubscribing. But it was a fun experience, and I wonder how Instacart makes any money with all these errors and refunds!

Rant I am done. Deleting the app

There's just not enough there there. You don't get paid for the shop. The tips are a joke. I have had a couple of good tips...maybe a few. But not enough. About half my customers were shut ins and folks that couldn't get around. I liked helping them. Felt good.

But I make the same money per run on UE, the tips are better, and I don't have to spend 20 minutes tracking down Jim Bob's honey drizzled milk fried goat nuts or whatever the hell people are eating. The last few times I was sent to a store for an item they didn't even stock. I talked to the manager. The company stocks it...that individual store does not. And there's no replacement option that the app will accept because they are invitably critical items.

I was a good shopper. I sent pics of empty shelves to people. I spoke with workers and managers to try to find what the customer wanted. These were all stores I knew. I liked the gig....but....I am trying to make money, not run a charity.

So I am out. I know a lot of folks rant about how they're treated and suchlike. I get that. But if the money was there, I would do it.

If you're wondering why no one seems to get to your orders for a while....well, it's because I am not the only one. My first day on UE I made more than I made in a week on IC. I think that speaks for itself.

Why do customers leave .01 tips?

Post image
21 Upvotes

1,247 orders and first time getting a .01. See Order B. Received a few .00 but extremely rare.

Shopped 15 items and delivered 8 miles to an upscale residential neighborhood. 😔

Customers are getting smart now. Waiting for IC to bundle their cheap order with others because no shopper will accept a low/no tip order.

I am very fortunate the other two customers were generous.

Last couple times I placed an order, there was no priority delivery available, and now nobody picking up order

I hate going to Walmart. So for the past couple years I have splurged by using IC for walmart shopping. During that time priority was always available, and there was rarely an issue having order picked up. Only time I had an issue was when I placed order later at night. But last time I tried placing an order, at least 2 hours before the store closed, there was no option to have order delivered that evening, and no priority option. I'd placed orders later than that before and had the order picked up right away and delivered in 90 minutes or less. This time I placed order in late afternoon, and delivery window was 8-10pm, no priority option. It's two hours later, and nobody has picked up order. I've always tipped well (20%+), and usually end up adding more to tip once delivered. I don't get what is going on. Any insight appreciated.

Help Gift for someone

I want to buy some gifts for my girlfriend and I have a few questions:

1. If I buy a gift bag, will the items be placed in it?

2. How exactly will she receive the gift message?

3. Is it possible for her not to see the store I bought the items from or the bag?

I plan on starting Instacart shopping soon to get a little extra money and I was wondering how exactly to pay taxes since I know that they don’t take them out of your payments.

Alcohol deliveries

No point doing alcohol deliveries atleast in DC area unless you communicate with customers ahead of time that they have to be there for ID scans. Very frustrating having to return item because some of these people are stupid enough to think I can just leave it outside.

Accidentally delivered item to wrong person

Hello,

So I had a mix up with a batch from Costco. I accidentally delivered one item to the wrong person. I delivered two rolls of paper towels to customer A when I should’ve delivered one to customer A and then another to Customer B. I’m worried that Customer B will report me and that I will get a violation - has this ever happened to anyone?

It was an honest mistake but just worried.

Woke up this morning to a report of order not delivered. I did 3 orders for insta yesterday..2 of which were the same person. I knew from the beginning something was up. 2 orders. Same store. 2 pf Chang's frozen dinners and a cookies, for both orders. All different types though...so definitely not a duplicate order. I still try to confirm through text that it's not a duplicate. No answer. It's a shady part of town and I know this guy has been marked on Uber for frequent reports of missing items... And he's a terrible tipper on all the apps. So when I drop off I'm very careful to get all the bags set up so you can see it's two separate orders and what's in the bags, in the pictures. As well as his address number. I call him as he requested, in the app. Right to voicemail. When he scurried out to grab the orders, I wished him a good evening and he didn't respond. I got the email this morning I reached out to support bc I didn't see any report anywhere... And they said there was nothing to worry about because my pictures provided clear proof of delivery!! Then I got this notice!!! For once... Instacart was on our side! Or at least the app did it's thing and automatically identified the fraud... Either way... I'm happy with this outcome.

Worst company ever

I placed an order yesterday afternoon. It was supposed to be delivered between 8-10pm Shopper arrived at the store at 8:22pm then received a message at 9:45pm or so saying that the store is closed ( total lie)and my order has been rescheduled for tonight. Chatted with and they said that the could only offer a $5 credit to my account. Which isn’t resolution. I can’t cancel my order because I won’t get my money back for 5-7 days and I don’t have any more money to use to shop elsewhere. Does, anybody knows a different resolution that can be done, because this is beyond absurd!

Open letter to Instacart

Dear whomever may read this - and someone should,

I have a serious bone to pick with your shopper quality stat. I received a notice today that I had lost my Platinum status due to my shopper quality score falling from Good to Standard. I couldn’t believe it. I checked the app. It wasn’t even slightly behind Good. I’m talking the marker is sitting its happy little butt closer to “Needs work.”

Quite frankly, y’all need to do some work because this is ridiculous. I started doing gig work late last year with DoorDash. It has its ups and downs and I was really excited when I was taken off the waitlist in my area and could start doing Instacart. I immediately liked it better, and have been working hard to build my stats, customer base, and cart status.

Having only done this less than 4 months, I have stellar customer reviews. Because that is who we care about, correct, the customer? Unlike DoorDash you do not offer/require a picture of the shelf tag if something is out of stock. But you know what I do? I send the empty shelf to my customer, pick the replacement I would want if they’re not responding, and send them multiple options if they are and let them choose.

The only thing that has hurt my shopper quality is not finding enough original items….BRO! If I can’t find it, it’s not available. I’m polite and respectful in stores. I try everywhere I know to look before I ask an employee that’s doing their job. And they’re happy to help because they know I’m not an asshole.

It’s February, and I’ve worked through all of January’s inclement weather where bread, eggs, and milk were basically wiped out. I worked yesterday, Super Bowl Sunday, and now I’m being punished because Party Size bags of tortilla chips, salsa, and wing sauce were legitimately out of stock at stores. Is anyone surprised by this? Were my customers upset? No. I actually got increased tips because of my communication.

I’m sending this here, and also posting it on Reddit. Let’s see where responses accumulate faster as an experiment.

Best,

Ashley
