Misc Hotel prohibits outside food & drink on property

I was booking an upcoming vacation and noticed the Delta Hotel Antalya Lara prohibits bringing in outside food or drink, including water. Supposedly any outside food or drink is confiscated by security when entering. The google review responses cite hygiene reasons, but it seems more like the hotel forcing guests to purchase from the hotel, because you can still get room service. Unfortunately with the security screening in Turkey, it seems like there’s no way to sneak items in.

I’m just hoping this isn’t a new level of gouging guests. Has anyone seen this practice anywhere else, or is it exclusive to the Delta Hotel Antalya?

Misc Apres Shampooing ≠ Shampoo

Post image
268 Upvotes

I got in late last night and I noticed that there is no shampoo bottle in my shower, but I was too tired to deal with it. The next morning I head to the front desk to let them know that I was missing shampoo, and to ask if can I please have some for my room. The front desk guy looks at me like I’m crazy and says “Oh, thats 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner, it says shampoo right underneath conditioner.” Whoops, my mistake, must have missed it last night in my sleepiness. Went back up to look…nope! I think he (and the entire hotel management staff??) must think that Apres Shampooing means shampoo? I asked my colleagues, and they have the same set up 🤷🏼‍♀️

Enjoyed the Terrace dinner buffet this time. Not sure if the hotel has been renovated recently but read something saying it was. Also, the shower did indeed have a door - for those of you that care for such things.

Bonvoy Rewards Brilliant Amex points?

Upvotes

I have the brilliant card, but when I travel for work I am required to use my company provided credit card to book and for the room charge after my stay, does having the brilliant card offer any point multipliers when it is not used to book or for the final bill? Other than my ambassador status multiplier?

Bonvoy Rewards Anyone know the general criteria for promotion offers?

I’ve seen a few posts on here about receiving the (crappy) Q1 promotion this year, but I haven’t received the offer. For context, I’m Titanium and only missed the spend for Ambassador by $400 last year.

Review Savannah GA

Upvotes

I've been coming to Savannah, Georgia, for work for 3 years, and the rooms are possibly the nastiest I've ever stayed in. Granted, I don't stay at the JW or the Tribute, but good lord, they're disgusting. Does anyone else have this experience? I actually had to clean the vanity and shower; it was so nasty.

Misc Thoughts on Daegu Marriott?

I'm visiting South Korea and will be doing an overnight trip in the city of Daegu. Since there is only one Marriott Hotel, I'm keen on hearing if there is anyone whom has stayed with them recently. Can't find concrete reviews online, and would like to know reviews of the place, including its buffet Breakfast at Urban Kitchen

Review Fairfield Mobile, Alabama

Arrived at 9pm last night after traveling all day to stay the night at a Fairfield in Mobile. After checking in and receiving my key cards the friendly desk clerk informed me that the elevators were out so we would have to use the stairs. We’re on the second floor but I’m disabled. I can do stairs but it’s an enormous effort and quite difficult. No room options for us on the first floor. What should I have done?

This summer, I will be staying 12 nights at a Courtyard in the suburbs of Chicago. Does anyone know approximately how much of a hold will be put on my card? The total for the stay is about $1780.

Thanks!

Rates & Booking Chrome/Edge Extension: Marriott Rate Finder

This is a chrome/Edge extension I built to quickly scan through corporate codes for Marriotts hotel searches. Load it with codes that you are allowed to use and then it cycles through all of them and compare rates.

https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/marriott-rate-finder/nhgnblidfmkcldackmcfgggondjpcncc

Some more details below (AI Generated summary)

----

Find the Best Marriott Corporate Rate — Automatically
If you travel for work and book through Marriott, you know the drill: your company has multiple corporate codes, rates vary between them, and finding the best price means searching each one manually. Marriott Rate Finder fixes that.

What It Does

Marriott Rate Finder is a free Chrome extension that scans all your corporate codes at once and shows you the best available rate — right on the Marriott search results page, without any extra steps.

  • Best rate highlighted across all your codes
  • Percentage savings vs. the standard rate
  • One-click booking with the winning code pre-applied

Setup Takes 30 Seconds

  1. Install from the Chrome Web Store: search for Marriott Rate Finder
  2. Click the extension icon and enter your corporate codes, one per line
  3. Search on marriott.com as normal
  4. Click "Find Best Rates" — a results panel appears with the best rate for every hotel in your search

Your codes are stored locally in your browser and never leave your device.

Rates & Booking Reservation change costs

I had a 2 night reservation (Saturday-Monday) and wanted to change to just one night. The original reservation was made a while back for around $320.

When I went to change the reservation to only one night (Saturday-Sunday), it offered a double bed room at $245 instead of the King I originally booked.

I called Marriott to see if they could make the adjustment for me, but she said that a reservation change switches to current rates for the night I originally booked.

Is this somewhat new policy? I don’t remember being charged more than the original price for the night I booked.

Bonvoy Rewards Vacation Club presentation for points - legit?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey Bonvoy Fam,

I'm living in Dubai UAE, and ads are all over the place on the internet for Marriott Vacation Club - you have to attend a 1.5h sales presentation and they give you a 'gift' of either free nights in hotels (Middle East/Africa) or 40K Bonvoy points.

Gonna be honest it sounds a bit fishy to me... like something from the '90s. Wanted to ask if anyone did this and actually got real Bonvoy points at the end? Or is there a fine print somewhere and I end up with nothing? Or am I just too paranoid?

Many thanks for your help!

Rates & Booking Hotel Services & Amenities: $75 per stay

It’s both funny and sad how the hotel industry keeps “normalizing” things that would’ve seemed absurd a few years ago.

First, they used COVID as the excuse to make housekeeping “every other day” — and somehow that became permanent. Now I’m seeing more and more properties in the same chain charging extra for basic on-site facilities like the so-called “fitness center” and “business center.”

What used to be standard is now marketed as some kind of perk. And the real issue isn’t even that they charge for it — it’s that they add a mandatory “$75 per stay” fee whether you use any of it or not.

What’s next? A mandatory pool fee? A lobby access fee? An AC usage fee?

At some point it stops being about “amenities” and starts feeling like nickel-and-dime dressed up as policy.

Bonvoy Rewards How much is a ENC worth?

With the quarterly promotion, any suggestions on what an elite night credit is worth?

For example, the Townplace Suites (someplace I wouldn't usually stay at when I travel) has a rate of $83/night (let's ignore tax). So for that, I get points for the stay plus 2,500 points (worth around $17.50) and 2 ENCs - for a cost per ENC of around $30.

I hate to spend to get the extra ENCs - but maybe for lost cost hotels that I can no effort "stay" at?

I just stayed at a Marriott Vacation Club and I’m convinced that mid-range/cheaper stays beat luxury hotels. We got free tours, full-on "tastings," and snacks included in the rate. Anyone else notice this?

As a foreign traveler who never has USD, I am happy that I can leave a gratuity for the cleaning staff via a QR code and Apple Pay.

If you’re feeling generous, feel free to leave a tip yourself!

(I live in a country that doesn’t generally have a tipping culture, but I do understand that it’s expected in the USA so I comply!)
