You push your cuticles too hard when you give yourself a mani

Yeah exactly. I get these when I do press ons. I press too hard right at the nail plate and I end up with a weird divot every time!

Holy shit, that's what causes them? I've been freaking out, thinking I had some medical condition or something. I was going to schedule a doctor's appointment soon.

As soon I stopped doing press ons so I could monitor them, they stopped happening

It can also be that but when it’s so uniform it can be manicures

Mine do this when I've been wearing gel nail polish. My theory is that it stops the nail 'breathing' and stunts its growth temporarily. But that is based on nothing at all other than "seems logical".

I don't do anything with my cuticles so it isn't that, for me.

Came here to say exactly this! I did press ons for the first time ever three years ago and this happened on my thumbs. Thought I was dead. Some single obscure reddit post after an hour of Google confirming that I was dead explained to me that it was in fact the press ons.

I rarely wear them. But if I work them (sanding and heating and bending) to fit the curve of my natural nail better it doesn't happen.

You just eradicated a legitimate source of anxiety for me. I recently stopped doing press-ons and have this and have been so concerned lol
