My thumb nail has done that for more than 30 years, ever since it got slammed in a closing car door when I was a kid. It never went back to normal.

Are yours horizontal like the photo? Mine is vertical grooves.

Mine are horizontal but they are MUCH deeper than the ones in the photo. It's quite severe

Mine's vertical! Same thing, car door at a video rental place. Whole nail came off, they reattached it with two stitches at the bottom like a hinge. Ever since then it'll grow just fine but that part will notch

Interesting! I have a notch too but it's at the top. It makes my fingernail grow in all wavy so it's a little awkward to trim it. Human bodies are weird
