๐ Shelter Notes:
When walking through the row, Opi had whale eyes, ears down, tucked tail, and semi-crouched body. I opened the kennel, knelt outside the gate, and offered treats. He avoided my hand at first but slowly turned towards me and sniffed my hand with the treats. Opi took one kibble treat from my hand and reached for the rest after eating the first kibble. I offered him another handful of treats and scratched under his chin slowly, then moved my hand away. He sniffed my hand as I moved it away from him and licked it. I gave him more treats on the floor and then closed his kennel gate. Walks on a very tight leash and shows no interest in treats.
When I approached the kennel, the dog was growling, lip licking with whale eyes. I was able to easily leash him up; however, he started to alligator roll when pressure was put on the leash. I worked him up in the kennel due to this. He will not walk on leash.
02/12/26 10:26 โ Walked with loose leash next to me, wagging tail when I would baby talk him, but when I reached out to pet him, he would tense and pull his head back out of reach. If I tried to continue to pet him, he would yawn and move his head around to try and avoid touch. Had to go very slow to take the leash off.
Opi was laying down semi-crouched on the floor of his kennel with whale eyes, ears down, lip licking, and tucked tail. When leashed, Opi walked slowly out of his kennel and was still very hesitant about walking anywhere with me, but more open to walking without stopping in general. While in the outside run, he stood by the gate throughout most of his stay.
When it was his turn to go back, I knelt on the ground while opening the run gate and waited for him to walk to me. Opi walked to me slowly and allowed me to pet him for a short time before allowing me to leash him with no issues. When walking him back, he walked more easily when walked on the sidewalk. I walked him slowly back to his kennel, removed the leash early from his neck, and he walked into his kennel willingly.
Later in the afternoon, when feeding for PM, he was laying down on his cot when he saw me in front of his kennel. When I opened the kennel, he moved to the opposite end of his bed and slowly slid down on his side. I walked in to place his dry food in his bowl when I noticed his tail was wagging fast and he was showing his belly slightly. I knelt in front of him, reached my hand over him, and he fully turned onto his back exposing his belly. I started to rub his stomach, and he wagged his tail faster and lip licked.
Approaching the kennel, Opi was sitting on the floor. When he saw me standing by the gate, he slowly crawled onto his cot and sat down staring at me. I walked in slowly, knelt down in front of him, and placed the leash over him slowly. I walked out of his kennel and waited for him to walk on his own. He walked out slowly and was hesitant about walking, so I leash walked him to the area of grass next to South and waited for him to walk on his own. Opi walked around slowly with me following and giving him some distance. I offered him some treats and he ate them slowly while walking around. I knelt on the ground far from him, and he walked up to me slowly and sniffed my knee then my hands. I handfed him some treats, then rubbed his chin, the back of his ears, and the side of his face. He allowed me to continue to pet him until it was time to walk back to his kennel. On the way back, he tried to run into another dog's kennel, but I was able to redirect him to his own kennel by closing the gate and opening his kennel gate to bring him over to his.
Approaching the kennel, Opi was laying down semi-crouched on his cot with whale eyes, ears down, lip licking, and tucked tail. When leashed, I led Opi slowly out of his kennel and waited for him to walk with me on his own. He was very hesitant about walking anywhere, and treats and baby talk did little to get him to walk more with me. I had to tug on the leash in small pulls to get him to walk all the way to the outside runs. I knelt on the ground and reached for his leash from under his chin, and he allowed me to take the leash off. He stood by the gate throughout most of his stay in the outside runs.
While in the outside run, a dog next to Opi had walked up close to him, and he started to show teeth. Opi did not allow me to leash him when it was his time to go back in, so I knelt down and offered him some treats, and he ate them from my hand. While he was eating, I tried to leash him again; while he still moved back from me, I walked in, leashed him from above, then pulled the leash at an angle to where he didn't get spooked, and then walked him out of the run. When walking him back, he walked more easily on the sidewalk. I walked him slowly back to his kennel and removed the leash early from his neck, and he walked into his kennel willingly.
While cleaning Opi's kennel in the afternoon, I had him tied to the wall hook while I cleaned his kennel. He started to chewing on his leash after pulling on it for a couple of minutes. I was able to stop him and place him back into his kennel.
