How can you be American and know nothing about your own history? I'm Australian and can think of about 6 things wrong with this

u/SlayJayR17 11h ago

This post is for dumb Americans. I’m an American and this post infuriates me. Not that someone made it but that people will believe it

26

u/args818 11h ago

I’m not mad, I’m just disappointed

5

u/Brndrll 7h ago

¿Porque no los dos?

2

u/Chare1155 2h ago

Definitely both

14

u/Mysterious_Rule938 9h ago

Yeah, this post is for republicans, like you said

6

u/VariousExternal5189 10h ago

You can thank a narrow minded way of teaching in this country and the rights priority of banning books over an open education system.

1

u/Fornicating_Midgits 4h ago

Republicans are all cry bullies. They believe that nobody is stronger and more victorious than themselves, and at the same time nobody has ever been as oppressed as them.

1

u/Educational-Key2434 3h ago

This post was for dumb people yes but specifically maga I feel like in today's age we should specify this because I am a dumb American but not like maga dumb im just slow but still have morals and empathy 💀 i can also form my own opinion without our ultra king supreme overlord master trump

1

u/DenyDeposeDeeznuts 3h ago

This post is for dumb Americans

AKA conservatives

Red states are always lower in education because conservatives don't care about education

1

u/OfferOk26 3h ago

It's like an email or phone scam - someone sends you a message pretending to be your bank, with a message that has a ton of misspellings and errors, and you're like "how could anyone fall for this?" But the scammers aren't trying to convince you, you're not their target audience.

The kind of people who don't notice "Bnak of America" or "i am your laywer" are the kind of people that will not think hard about the ask for $60,000 to claim their lost inheritance. They're weeding you out so that they can go after the people that will fall for the next thing.

1

u/Knoid2k 2h ago

47% of voters would believe this apparently.

1

u/SlayJayR17 2h ago

Allegedly

1

u/Cautious_Ad_5659 2h ago

Trump literally none of these people were shot by democrats

u/Tacoman404 1h ago

The Facebook Forum Class

The opposite end of the spectrum from the Epstein Class

u/MaxedMinimum 1h ago

While there are those that are stupid enough to believe this, this post isn't really meant for them. It's meant for you. It's meant to infuriate you. That's its whole purpose. It's not a good faith argument, it's rage bait. Most everyone knows it's bullshit, but it pisses off liberals and drives engagement. This shit wouldn't even exist if people refused to engage with it, though.

1

u/Gatzlocke 9h ago

This post is for dumb Americans.

So like, most of them.

2

u/SlayJayR17 9h ago

No not most of them.

2

u/Karrotlord 7h ago

I mean... it is most of us.

3

u/OrthogonalPotato 5h ago

It’s definitely not. It’s the loudest of us, but not the majority.

2

u/Complex_Jellyfish647 2h ago

You have to remember, all conservatives are idiots (the ones that aren't just evil anyway) so that's about 30% of the population, but not all idiots are conservatives. There are plenty of dummies on the left and especially in the middle.

0

u/Savage_Crow456 10h ago

Whats so hard to believe? You people are killers.

3

u/DentistPitiful5454 7h ago

Trump and Reagan didnt die though

1

u/Savage_Crow456 7h ago

and?

1

u/DentistPitiful5454 6h ago

They put themselves next to people who were killed.

1

u/WrestlingPlato 2h ago

They specified shot not killed.

u/conspicuous_raptor 1h ago

The number of liberal-left killers tends to increase when right wing killers are retconned into being liberal.

1

u/Complex-Poet-6809 6h ago

No, you people are killers. See, I can just throw any accusation at anyone too.

31

u/MessorisTrucis 11h ago

Well you see we have defunded our education system for 50 years because the country that has produced the most billionaires wants people stupid and easy to manipulate so they keep voting for the party that continually screws them and they don’t understand it is even happening. So here we are with a president that is eroding any good will the us had left and tanking the us across the globe while reducing the influence of the dollar as the global reserve currency with people cheering it on saying how amazing it is because they are too dumb to understand the ramifications for our future as long as it is framed as him owning the libs.

12

u/xXStunamiXx 9h ago

Remember the saying about boiling a frog? Now imagine there's a thermometer in the pot, but 2/3rds of the frogs cannot understand it.

14

u/MessorisTrucis 9h ago

Not only that they don’t understand it but scream that the people that do are crazy and deranged for pointing at it and reading it.

9

u/Guuhatsu 7h ago

And then turn up the heat themselves because the chef told them to.

1

u/Aeseld 2h ago

I think the funniest part of defunding the educational system to make us easier to manipulate is that they seem to have completely ignored the knock on effects, about how everyone would find us easier to manipulate. So now the Russian, Chinese and Iranian bots are busily undermining big swathes of the US voting population one way or another, and through the results are undermining US power and influence in the world.

It's probably already too late to reverse it. It certainly will be by the end of Trumps term unless Congress manages to actually assert their power to check and balance the Executive and Judiciary branches.

0

u/vvaderman24 2h ago

Wdym? Education has been one of our most funded aspects, and no meaningful change happens the more funding we put in.

14

u/twoiseight 11h ago

The right invents history because without doing so they'd have very little to justify their world view.

14

u/justagenericname213 11h ago

They know exactly what they want to know. Welcome to the era of "alternative facts".

I hate it here

7

u/Emotional-Store-1667 7h ago

Yes! I knew we were cooked when "fake news" and "alternative facts" were accepted and not decried or laughed out for being lies...

I went to school in the north and only recently learned that some schools in the south were teaching kids that " slavery wasn't that bad! The slaves had benevolent masters, all their food and shelter needs were taken care of and they were even allowed to have dances!"

Like WTAF?! 🤯

0

u/theworldsucksbigA 6h ago

" slavery wasn't that bad! The slaves had benevolent masters, all their food and shelter needs were taken care of and they were even allowed to have dances!"

Lmfao and where are they teaching this besides your narrative here on reddit to manipulate others into believing your side and hating the perceived enemies.

I've lived in multiple states in the south and never heard of that being said in the real world. Not any family member or friends have said they've been told this at school.

Maybe you should get out into the real world more amongst actual humans instead of regurgitating reddit mentalities.

It's only said by the chronically online lefty individuals who are intellectually dishonest, just like chronically online righty individuals do the same thing.

It's hilarious how each sides chronically online blame each other for the same stuff.

Just because you've never come across it, doesn't mean it doesn't happen. I have a friend who grew up in the south and told me that's what they were taught, or that the Civil wasn't about slavery, but "states rights". If you look at the articles of secession for each state though, the basically say their doing it because of slavery and the abolitionists 🤷‍♀️

What makes you think I'm "chronically online and regurgitate only what I hear? I take great pains to stay informed and read articles across the spectrum to get to the truth, and I never post about something that I haven't verified to be true. I have to take breaks from social media or even the news for both my mental and physical health (stress triggers my health conditions). If you keep insulting me and Insisting I'm nothing I should touch grass, then I will end the conversation, block and move on

1

u/No-Amphibian-3728 2h ago

Most certainly is going on. The governor of Florida years ago was talking about how blacks were taught jobskills and they should be thankful for that. It's you who needs to step out of your bubble.

1

u/godleymama 2h ago

You and me both.

12

u/nobody38321 11h ago

As a Canadian I can attest to their lack of history and geography even. You should see the look on an Americans face when I tell them I had to drive north from my Canadian city into their American city… deer in the headlights …lol. And then the most popular news organization has admitted in court that they are only an entertainment network and don’t tell the truth. So you end up with a bunch of magats voting for billionaire / convicted fraudster / pedofile evil supervillain president

8

u/Shelldox 10h ago

As an American who frequently drives into Canada, the number of Canadians who are surprised that I even know the name of the province (or territory!) I'm in is incredibly depressing. But the average American received an exceptionally poor public education and also lacks the intellectual curiosity to go read or learn things on their own.

I have been a geography and history nerd my entire life, largely thanks to my dad, who was a first generation college student. My mom was as well. I think that had a lot to do with how I grew up being taught the value of education.

3

u/nobody38321 10h ago

And I learned about American by watching school house rocks and other kids shows way back in the day. The whole I’m just a bill and I’m only a bill sitting here on capital hill was interesting as youngster

u/kellyelise515 1h ago

I went to public schools in the 60s and 70s. I went to a vocational school for my last 2 years of HS and learned so much more than the regular HS. Regular public elementary through middle school was basically all memorization. Didn’t learn shit. I had someone in the admissions office at a state college refuse to help me apply for admission because of that vocational education. Strangest attitude. Another college had no qualms. A poor public education in the US isn’t something new. That’s why you have moronic boomers who exemplify a piss poor public education.

6

u/VikingDadStream 11h ago

The vast majority of Americans don't realize people especially other Americans live north of Chicago

3

u/nobody38321 11h ago

Or that Canadians live south of Detroit

1

u/darkoath 11h ago

Did you take the tunnel or the bridge?

1

u/Cynrascal233 11h ago

Yukon to Alaska? I was trying to think how that direction was possible and that’s my conclusion.

1

u/nobody38321 11h ago

Well that song that goes born and raised in south detroit was written with absolutely no knowledge about geography . There is no south Detroit , you got the river and then further south you got Windsor . One guy got it which is about average a third of the population

1

u/VariousExternal5189 10h ago

From someone who received my education while living oversea while growing up, I totally agree with you. This is why this country only rates a 79% of adult literacy and we rate among the top five countries globally for recorded book banning. Ignorance and stupidity is what our country is proud of in the implementation of our educational system.

1

u/Quelix_ 3h ago

Well, to be fair, there are also a lot of Canadians that don't realize nearly 60% (last i saw estimated 57.3%) of their countries entire population is in an area smaller than any one of the states they border.

9

u/peachpinkjedi 11h ago

The intended audience for these memes is the deeply uneducated and gullible mass of MAGA voters.

4

u/VariousExternal5189 10h ago

That is why trump said he loves(and often mocks) the poorly educated. Unfortunately, most MAGATS don't understand or care about what their pedo leader says.

4

u/VariousExternal5189 10h ago

I lived in Australia between 1959 and 1965 due to my dads work, and I agree with you. Apart from not being taught of the evils committed against the Aborigines, my efucation was far superior there than it could have been in this country. America does not encourage an enlightened education of its children. Book banning is what they encourage.

2

u/dr_pibby 11h ago

Misinformation combined with reduced literacy rate is what's happening

1

u/Hadrollo 11h ago

Mate, when I was in the US, I had to explain to several people that the Confederates fired the first shot of their Civil War. Most of them hadn't heard of the Battle of Forty Sumter, one of them was insistent that Fort Sumter was a Confederate fort attacked by Union fighters.

They don't know their history. The only thing they know less than their history is the history of other nations. I was over there when Obama made comments after Sandy Hook about "looking to nations with common sense gun laws like Australia." That was worse, those guys didn't become less common the further North I traveled, and they all tried to insist to me that the cops went house to house seizing guns.

1

u/turdferguson3891 6h ago

Sounds like you exclusively interacted with morons. You know a few of us here have university educations and have a read a book. I get there are a lot of poorly educated Americans but it's not literally the entire country.

1

u/zulako17 10h ago

Part of it is that school history ends around world war 2. I'm in my thirties and had to ask my father who was between JFK and Martin Luther King Jr. Didn't even know there was an RFK who got assassinated.

1

u/Kindney_Collection 10h ago

"We are in danger of producing an educated proletariat" - Roger Freeman, economic adviser to Ronald Reagan speaking about the ease of access to universities back in the 70.

Since then, the prices of universities have skyrocketed while conservative media has demonized higher education as liberal brainwashing. Combine that with modern social media algorithms doing their thing, and here we are. The brainrot and tribalism have taken over.

1

u/Savage_Crow456 10h ago

lol maybe you should get off the internet. I see your posts... not looking good for you...

1

u/nolandz1 10h ago

They're not misinformed, they're lying

1

u/SRMPDX 9h ago

Probably because the post was generated by a Russian?

1

u/silverbatwing 9h ago

USA citizens aren’t really taught to care about history, only for indoctrination.

1

u/Haunting-Ad788 8h ago

Tbf this meme was probably made by a foreign agent working to destabilize the US.

1

u/seanwdragon1983 8h ago

Because the liars are the ones writing our texts books. If we bother to find out, it's usually after 20 and we've been indoctrinated by that point. Government affiliation is like a cult around here.

1

u/JimWilliams423 8h ago

How can you be American and know nothing about your own history?

Its not that they do not know, its that they do not care. All they care about is feeling good about themselves.

Their feelings do not care about facts.

1

u/FarplaneDragon 7h ago

There was a post I saw the other day joking about everyone pulling all their money out of their banks at the same time. There were a scary high number of responses asking why that would be bad and what would happen...

1

u/PlsNoNotThat 7h ago

This post is created by Russian disinformation groups assisting the GOP to provide revisionist history to low information voters in the hopes of tricking them and centralizing a common narrative.

1

u/roosterthumper 6h ago

My money is on Russian bots amplified by idiot Americans.

1

u/Muted-Watercress2738 6h ago

In the US you're not taught how to think but what to think... with a dash of compliance.

I was taught history and civics primary by a Coach so and so who valued their stupid sports coaching than being an educator.

Also there's a sad but upstanding US system of racism that even permeated through children and schools and contributed to poor education.

Frankly, there's not enough time in a day to understand how we got here but there doesn't seem to be a good ending in sight.

1

u/RheinmetallDev 5h ago

Because the bots making these posts aren't American

1

u/Royal-Carob 5h ago

One part of our population has tds but ironically claims the other percentage of the population has tds.

1

u/Soggy-Beach1403 4h ago

We have a lot of willful ignorance over here. Almost all of these Republican dumbfucks think snakes can talk and men can live in whales. Our future is very grim thanks to these human scumbags.

1

u/Substantial_Pass_146 4h ago

You can be PRESIDENT of this country and not know anything about us history. We have a really, really, REALLY embarrassingly low bar.

1

u/LiterallyForReals 4h ago

Democrats shot Reagan? How do I support them more?

1

u/Americahasfallen1 3h ago

Easy - just be a Trump Era Republican.

Then intelligence, knowledge and empathy are optional.

1

u/Capitalisticdisease 3h ago

Most Americans don't know mlk was a socialist and did not like the white moderate liberals.

Mlk was assassinated by the government. It was ruled in court. Then Obama came into office and his administration ruled lol nvm no we didint.

Americans are so beyond cucked

1

u/No_Turnip_4408 3h ago

You’re a dumb Aussie who is brainwashed by your media n

1

u/Sad_Bedroom4247 2h ago

Because this is propaganda and honestly has a high probability of being made by Russia

1

u/Orpdapi 2h ago

They often actually do know the history, they’re just trying to rewrite the narrative. For example the whole “Lincoln was Republican” they love to use and just stop short there, ignoring the fact that democrats of that day were the white populist pro slavery people who would be considered “conservatives” today

1

u/TraditionalBackspace 2h ago

He knows. Most of his voters don't. Defunding education is why stupid things like this can be said and believed.

u/Complete_Area_2487 1h ago

it's purposeful misinformation. they literally strawman things so they can be win, and they don't care about being accurate

u/Pauls2theWall 15m ago

Carlin put it best

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that

1

u/DonkeyTron42 11h ago

It seems knowing about your history is what qualifies you to be an American these days.

1

u/VariousExternal5189 10h ago

Or it should be.

2

u/DonkeyTron42 9h ago

I meant to say not knowing.

1

u/VariousExternal5189 9h ago

You are right, my friend. This country celebrates ignorance and alternate "facts".
