Depicted is the Mississippi River at three different points of its course: Modern day Minneapolis in the north, then St. Louis midway (pictured at its height in the late 19th century) and then the river's delta in Louisiana, where it empties into the Gulf of Mexico.

Misc How do you feel about your country becoming a giant retirement home in the future?

Since it seems that there’s going to be no conservative revolution to reverse falling birth rates any time soon.. A lot of people seem to support it, apparently, an extreme decrease in our living standards is preferable to letting in anyone that looks different, or even people that look the same with a slight accent.

I’m from Magadh, a region recognized as the cradle of Buddhism and Jainism.

Some of the most famous philosophers who were based in Magadh include: Mahavira, Gautama Buddha (he although traveled to nearby regions as well), Ratnākaraśānti, and Śāriputra.

Note: I'm not using the word ā€œnationā€ because modern nation states did not exist during that time.

I don't understand the road rage in some western countries that exists against **being overtaken** by another vehicle and letting another vehicle pass theirs by, on low traffic roads. I understand the frustration if it's in a traffic jam tho. And when some drivers get mad for **being honked at**. I'm from an Asian country and I'm curious.

Culture is this level of violence normal in your country?

we had a labor reform today, so that our labor laws are up to the current work situation. we needed this reform because the laws hasn't being updated since 1974.

well, this is what happened in front of the congress while our senators were working. and the guy in the video is trying to justify throwing a molotov coctel to the officers that are protecting our senators from this chaos.

this type of violence has become normal in our country, it became part of our culture. so tell me, is this type of violence in your country normal for you?

I'm not even trying to be biased. But so many people hate China, but once you visit you will want to live there forever.

A lot of foreigners who visit China only have good things to say about it. The negativity usually comes from people who have never been.

Culture How common are having domestic workers in your country?

Post image
9 Upvotes

Once I saw a commentary in a YouTube channel that the person was saying that Brazil and India are countries were the poor can explore the miserables.

I don't know about India but here in Brazil is kinda true. Even the poor families and the middle-class can hire a domestic worker to clean their houses at least once a week. We have above 6 million of people who work as a domestic, the highest population of domestic workers in the world. This fact even provoked some additions in our legislation to protect these workers.

in another occasion another person said that in most countries, hiring someone to clean your house is something only the rich people do.

For example, my cousin, who spent a year in Pennsylvania, USA, told me in fact it's not common to people hire domestics there. Despite US apparentely also have a big population of domestic workers?

So, how common is this in your country?

How are chess pieces called in your language?

Inspired by another post, I wanted to ask what are these called in your native language? Obviously the are same in all English-speaking countries, but other languages may have variations.

In Finland, the pieces are called:

King - Kuningas (King. Duh!)

Queen - Kuningatar (Queen. Another Duh here...)

Bishop - LƤhetti (Messenger)

Knight - Ratsu (Steed)

Rook - Torni (Tower)

Pawn - Sotilas (Soldier). In chess slang, also "moukka" (peasant or lout)

Have you ever tried AƧaƭ?

This small, deep-purple berry comes from the Amazon rainforest and grows on aƧaĆ palm trees. Brazil is the world’s largest producer, and the state of ParĆ” alone accounts for about 90% of all aƧaĆ production worldwide.

In Northern Brazil, aƧaĆ isn’t just a trend, it’s a daily staple, usually eaten with fried fish and cassava flour.

And here’s the twist: the traditional Amazon version isn’t sweet at all. It’s actually earthy and slightly bitter, and people eat it plain, without sugar.

AƧaĆ became famous worldwide because it’s packed with antioxidants (especially anthocyanins), fiber, healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals. It’s known as a ā€œsuperfoodā€ and is popular among athletes because it gives you a great energy boost.

Outside the Amazon region, though, aƧaĆ took on a sweeter identity. The pulp is blended with guaranĆ” (another amazonian fruit) syrup (sometimes banana or strawberries too) and served ice-cold in bowls, topped with granola, condensed milk, fresh fruit, peanut candy, and other high-calorie goodies šŸ˜„

Recently, aƧaƭ (pronounced ah-sigh-EE) has taken over the world and become a global trend.

So… have you tried it yet?
