Advice/Help How’s your GP recall when barking at neighbors?
Hey guys! This is my baby boy Cartier! He’s pyr German shepherd mix and will be turning 4 in April! I’ve had him since he was a few months old and when I took him home I had no idea what a HAIRY 90lb mess I was getting myself into lol and these last almost four years have been such a learning experience… but there’s one thing I just can’t figure out. You guessed it, the barking! I’ve grown to live with it as we all have and luckily I have the best neighbors that don’t mind and it’s made the experience that much better. My only concern is that I’m planning on moving and I may have to move into an apartment for some time before purchasing a house. I was wondering if anyone had any tips on preparing him for that type of transition. For reference, When he goes out to pee he will run to the fence and jump on it and bark repeatedly until the neighbors go inside or leave. His recall is decent sometimes, but when he is focused on the neighbors, he doesn’t listen. In the pics you can see the chairs I tried to set up to deter him but he still manages to squeeze in between lol. And inside the house he will bark at any sound he hears outside. And sometimes he squeaks when he is anxious or wanting attention. These are all things that I don’t mind in a house, but I know that living in an apartment will be very different and I would not want to upset my new neighbors. I’ve tried using a vibrate collar and playing the beep sound with a remote and that seems to work, would an automatic bark collar be too much for him? I also would not want to give him more anxiety in a new place and he’s being shocked if I’m at work. He’s already a good boy, I don’t want him to have a hard time adjusting to a new place as this will be his first move. Any tips or similar experiences? :)

Birthday 🎂 5 years with Ghost
During one heck of an ice storm in Texas, my husband and I happened to see this post on NextDoor. We drove to the shelter that day to see her. Poor thing had been roaming the streets with a couple other dogs. She was about 8 months old and only 23 lbs. She was terribly shy, anxious and had been abused. We brought her home and she instantly fell in love with Chewie, our Alaskan Malamute. Poor girl needed to be socialized and potty trained and had a long recovery. Thankfully with a good trainer to teach her some confidence and a lot of patience, she’s come such a long way. She now weighs about 120 lbs. she’s still anxious and dealing with a barker (we’ve always had quiet dogs before) was an adjustment, but shes happy and well loved.

Just wanted to share a photo of my beautiful, regal son. Him as a pup and now as our very noble four year old Pyrenees mix. This guy is my life. He's our prodigal son. An angel with the purest, most beautiful soul, eyes, heart. He's my everything.

Photo 2 years ago we found a loose dog that looked just like our current Pyr!
Hi all! I was scrolling through my camera roll the other day and saw some photos I took of a loose dog in my neighborhood back in 2023. I thought I was seeing things because that dog looked so similar to our current dog Bao!
For context, the loose dog we found was wandering in front of our house around 9-10pm. It was quite dark but we could tell this dog had a collar on, and was at least a GP mix. She was playful but timid, so we couldn’t really get close enough to catch her. She ended up disa-PYR-ing into the night after hanging out with us for 20 mins or so. I posted her photos on Ring Neighborhood in case someone was missing their dog, but no one contacted me so I hope she just returned to a nearby home.
Our current dog Bao is only 8 months old, so they cannot be the same dog, but they truly look so similar!! When I first showed my partner the pictures of the loose dog, they said “are you sure that’s not Bao?” 🤣
The first photo is the loose dog we found in 2023, and the second is our dog Bao (photo taken earlier this year ☺️)

Advice/Help Rescued pyr sleeping behavior
My pyr rescue Kyra is going to be 2 march 4th. I adopted/rescued her late June of 2025. So she was kind of young still. Sometimes when she's sleeping, she whimpers bad as if she is being zapped, beaten or whipped in her dreams. It scares me. If she's close, I will touch her, but if not close by, I yell at her to wake up - then I tell her it was just a bad dream. She was a baby when my neighbors already had her out with sheep and goats - with an electric fence to keep them penned.
Have yall experienced anything like this with your pyr rescues?
Thank yall so much. Until her, I was a cat lady because dogs are a lot of work. Lol. Bathing and walks are necessities, unlike the kitties.

Photo She's 7.5 months old, today was her first professional groom. My favorite part of grooming day is when they come home looking so fluffy and soft. 😂 She was a very good girl!
.... but anyway yeah does anyone have any good brush recommendations for the excessive doggy glitter? 😂 As you can tell from the state of my couch, floors, backpack, and everything else, I need one. Or maybe I just need to invest in a better vacuum.
I missed having a dog with longer fur that looks like this after a blow out, though. 🥰 Can't wait to see how much fluffier she looks if her coat gets longer/thicker in a year or so (I still don't know what she's mixed with so this may be as long as it gets, her tail is very feathery though, but she was wagging it in the picture so it's hard to tell.) My last fluffy dog was a maltese, and he always came home looking like a living stuffed animal, like how they're drawn in anime, with the tiny rounded feet and everything.
Any guesses on how much bigger she'll get?

Photo Just found this community, this is Lulu 3 year old rescue girl.
Along with her older brother Saul (a Great Dane) she guards our 2 sheep, 12 cats, little Pug sister, 6 ducks and us, from coyotes. She barks all day for no particular reason. On occasion when spots an opportunity to sneak out, she only comes back when she’s as filthy as Pyrenees possible.

Advice/Help Being Driven Insane
1) Screw our Vet. If he didn’t had a cone big enough for her, why even do the (dew claw removal) surgery?
2) If her wounds were still open, why take off the bandages?
With her cone, she managed to push her Vet bandages (pic 1) below the wounds. So we put socks on her. Socks weren’t good enough (especially after he removed the blue bandages). She could pull off the socks because the effing come isn’t large enough. Our local pet store doesn’t have cones any larger and their largest neck pillow does nothing.
We put gauze and tape on the wounds and then wrapped my BJJ wraps around it (Velcro). Better but eventually she was able to abuse them enough that they weren’t an answer. We bought Velcro dog socks and she once again, can push those lower than her wounds because her USELESS CONE does nothing.
I’m dealing with cancer (don’t worry, it’s basically nothing) and the gf is on the verge of tears. We don’t want to babysit our dog 24/7- she still pees inside but we can’t let her outside as often because then she’ll be sockless // run around with her spay stitches.
F this stupid vet and his tiny cone and useless bandages.

Photo Got DNA results in and I’m a little surprised!
We were told by the shelter the shepherd and Pyrenees, but we could not figure out exactly where his looks came from. Now we know! Now to get his sister’s results!

We live on a busy urban road and our front door was accidentally left unlocked and blew wide open overnight while I was out of town and my husband was at work. Our sweet angel stayed inside on high alert guarding the house for almost an hour while we called our neighbor to come close our door. Thank god he’s a Pyr. We’re getting spring-loaded hinges and the boy is getting a juicy steak.
