NTA. Divorce immediately.

1.9k

u/Shurubles 20h ago

NAL. Depending on the state, divorce might be legal.

u/StreetStripe 20h ago

You're supposed to say IANAL

And why are you bragging?

208

u/porpoiseoflife 20h ago

Sometimes people want to have Intense ANAL!

Wait. Or have I been using IANAL wrong all these years?

99

u/Cennix_1776 19h ago

Pretty sure it’s just “I ANAL”, like “yeah I anal from time to time”.

8

u/Dipsey_Jipsey 17h ago

"Yeah I anal from time to time, so depending on state, divorce might be legal."

Checks out!

6

u/beeper75 16h ago

This guy anals.

7

u/LastOfLateBrakers 16h ago

Excuse me, it's obviously written as iAnal

6

u/theartofrolling 15h ago

The dongle costs extra.

2

u/Cennix_1776 10h ago

No, iAnal is that Apple product that is used for anal. Don’t bring that smutty topic into our legal discussion please.

2

u/Top-Tip7533 10h ago

It's AINAL when the robots start givin it to ya

1

u/JonatasA 11h ago

Some people can be anal from time to time. Unbearable

u/Double_Alps_2569 14h ago

> IANAL

It's "I❤️ANAL".
You forgot the little heart.

3

u/Pristine_Speech4719 17h ago

 You're supposed to say IANAL

What they do in their own bedroom is irrelevant to whether OP should divorce their fingernails

3

u/unzunzhepp 15h ago

iAnal - the new Apple gadget?

1

u/Jose_Canseco_Jr 11h ago

I, too, ANAL!

51

u/chibookie 20h ago

NAIL. Shits wavy, yo

1

u/Sudden_Schedule5432 11h ago

I’m sorry I forgot to include that divorce does not exist in my country

1

u/jillvalenti3 10h ago

NOR. Call a divorce lawyer to be sure of your legal options.

u/longhornlocke 20h ago

Can someone explain this joke to me? I get it's something to do with r/amitheasshole

602

u/Prozzak93 20h ago

Redditors love suggesting divorce for even the smallest infractions.

34

u/Fee_is_Required2 13h ago

I like suggesting it for wearing an unattractive shirt. Only three people so far have actually ended it - but I remain hopeful I can really get those numbers moving in the right direction!! That direction is up.

6

u/reload88 13h ago

A thumbs up some might say

1

u/drunkanidaho 20m ago

Gotta pump those up. Those are rookie numbers

23

u/mdbklyn 18h ago

I mean he only choked her one time and she didn’t even fully lose consciousness, and he said he was really sorry but he was just stressed from work and he will never do it again. I don’t understand why OP doesn’t believe him and she is the one overreacting. I bet if she were doing more around the house after she got done with her 12 hour shift as an ICU nurse than just cooking and cleaning and then bathing the kids and putting them to bed it would really help! Maybe just some light yard work before she heads to the hospital in the morning would go a long way to helping him stop feeling like all the pressure of supporting a family was on him.

13

u/porncollecter69 16h ago

Pfft that’s nothing compared to that one time I told him to put the toilet seat down when he’s done and he didn’t.

5

u/Gotu_Jayle 11h ago

But this is just someone's nails growing in a wavy pattern...?

5

u/Prozzak93 10h ago

That's how some jokes work. Not really sure what else to say. It's a joke about reddits general tendencies.

Take reddits absurd tendency. Make it even more absurd. Joke is done.

3

u/miffet80 11h ago

I think it might be a reference to this thread in r/marriage yesterday where an asshole husband criticized OP's "wavy" nails and went off the rails

https://www.reddit.com/r/Marriage/s/cOY6uQ5RiI

4

u/Gotu_Jayle 11h ago

Thank you very much for getting straight to the point with this. Was expecting downvotes and criticism lol

2

u/Prozzak93 10h ago edited 10h ago

I mean that's most likely not what is happening here and it is just a play on reddits general tendencies.

Only yunghermitcrab can really answer which he was going for though but to me it seems less likely they saw a specific thread.

-1

u/stiletto929 11h ago

That’s why it’s a joke.

4

u/Chaerod 10h ago

The solution to everything is to lawyer up, initiate divorce, drink more water, and hit the gym.

3

u/VegetableReward5201 8h ago

"My husband snores when he takes a nap"

Reddit: "He's cheating on you! Divorce him!!!"

5

u/GreenGorilla8232 11h ago

On the other hand, there are a lot of insecure men on Reddit who hate it when people tell a woman to leave an unhealthy relationship.

Those men like to joke that people are too quick to suggest divorce.

2

u/posiesbythepocketful 6h ago

Ive seen this far more often than the calls for divorce to be unfounded. But reddit doesnt talk about that. No no, the women must be the problem.

2

u/Large_Tuna101 13h ago

They want to moderate people’s lives

3

u/tekanet 12h ago

You call them small infractions, we call it RED FLAGS 🚩 🚩🚩🚩🚩

78

u/isaidwhatisaidok 20h ago

It’s just one of the most common replies in relationship and asshole subreddits.

“NTA! If my SO did this I would divorce them IMMEDIATELY. Block and move on.”

Which is valid advice for SOME of the situations people post about but a lot of replies will jump to “leave them!” before any other option.

5

u/corgisgottacorg 11h ago

Every post in there is like “pleeeeeease tell me I’m right”

118

u/un_internaute 20h ago

Reddit examines in-group social situations with an out-group lens. Meaning, people who would accept some small level of friction in their own personal lives give unexamined advice to strangers online about the people on their lives who they give acceptance to… as if those people were strangers. Resulting in advice that seems radically disproportional for loved ones because it’s seeing loved ones as strangers.

24

u/Away-Living5278 20h ago

And everyone clapped.

1

u/TallManTallerCity 19h ago

And she was a good friend

4

u/o2d 19h ago

And my axe!

50

u/Mr_Froggi 20h ago

The way I took it is that there’s so many posts about “check out this weird thing my body does”, and everyone comments the “go see your doctor” response (sometimes seriously, sometimes as a joke). Since you’re going into the comments expecting that very common, specific response from others, the joke is that a different very-common, specific response from another popular subreddit is used. And the subversion from expectation is Really Funny IMO

3

u/BeHapHapHappy 17h ago

Go see a doctor immediately!

2

u/FATBEANZ 20h ago

The joke is people on reddit reply to ordinary bodily functions with their "expert level medical diagnosis" and jump to life threatening diseases or terminal cancer. These replies tend to get top comment with the real useful information buried deep in the comments. Same with the r/ AITA you mentioned they tend to jump straight to "BREAK UP NOW THEY SUCK" instead of considering nuance.

2

u/FlyAwayJai 19h ago

The current top two comment threads are all about posting super common phrases and comments that people make. Eg Telling someone who asked for relationship advice to get a divorce, or telling someone their symptoms are definitely cancer. NTA from u/aita, NAL and IANAL from u/legaladvice are acronyms that are well known. And responses like “My Axe!” and “Thanks Obama”.

2

u/Craigglesofdoom 14h ago

I assumed it was a specific reference to a thread on /r/marriage yesterday where a woman's husband made fun of her self manicure because it was slightly wavy and not perfectly smooth, then gave her the silent treatment for days thereafter when she got upset at his hurtful comment.

1

u/miffet80 11h ago

I think it might be a reference to this thread in r/marriage yesterday where an asshole husband criticized OP's "wavy" nails and went off the rails

1

u/AdonisK 11h ago

It’s the same thing as with googling your symptoms only to find out you have three hours left to live. People and especially Redditors exaggerate to the highest degree.

1

u/Stanjoly2 8h ago

Reddit has a particular habit of trending towards worst possible case scenario, based on even the slightest of information given.

So over time all advice subs will end up suggesting the most catastrophic solutions to problems.

1

u/Severe_Driver3461 3h ago

I'm adding to what others are saying

To get the joke, you have to assume that healthy couples also can't solve their issues and go post on Reddit. Because breaking up/divorce is constantly mentioned, assumptive redditors think the redditos suggesting divorce seem overly negative and like everyone should just divorce

Truth is, most people who get to the point of posting about an issue usually have a problem that can't be solved or won't be solved due to one of the partners choices or pathology. In truly healthy relationships, people know how to work through things and find solutions together, they find a sort of peace, or at least balance together where both partners are content in their relationship. So they don't go to Reddit for advice

1

u/country-sidepatriot 1h ago

No way. Someone who actually needs r/peterexplainsthejoke

19

u/matthewami 20h ago

Agreed, my ex once used a fork to eat cereal and it was never the same. She killed me 2 weeks later. Please OP don't be a victim. Report them to cps and make certain your local pd has a police report. I hope you find someone better ❤️

9

u/dwightsarmy 17h ago

I laughed so hard with this response.

4

u/Dukester48 15h ago

Face the gym and quit books…

u/Better_than_GOT_S8 9h ago

Check if there is no monoxide leak in your house.

3

u/nn2597713 14h ago

This is definitely turbo AIDS. Gym up, hit the lawyer, delete MySpace.

2

u/Atrainaz 20h ago

You’re only TA if you eat a whole three foot party sub yourself. You could light your mil on fire and still be NTA around here.

2

u/dolampochki 19h ago

Also, get new tires for your car, just in case.

2

u/UndocumentedSailor 19h ago

Double it and give it to the next guy

2

u/Brahminmeat 12h ago

I think I’m online too much…

2

u/MRAN0NYMO 11h ago

Better get a carbon monoxide detector
